"What's going on?" Aiden muttered to his assistant, An, who stood waiting for instructions.
"We have no information on Sidney yet, sir. He's gone missing. But he's still looking for a woman. What I don't understand is, if he's looking for Madam, why isn't he searching here? Why in another country? Are you sure that he is looking for her? What if it is someone else?"
Aiden shook his head. He knew that Sidney was looking for Serena. He didn't know why he was so sure, but he was. "You need to find the answers to these questions. According to her hospital records, she wasn't brought here directly after the accident. She was already in a coma when she arrived. The accident must have happened elsewhere which we already knew. Have you looked up any major car accidents that happened in the past?"
"But sir, if Sidney Price is really looking for Madam, why didn't those people who were pretending to be her parents contact him? Why sell her off to you? I'm sure he would have paid them handsomely as well."
"We'll have to find those answers ourselves," Aiden murmured, trying to piece together the puzzle himself.
Before An could respond, his phone rang. He answered it, then turned to Aiden, "Sir, the police are here. They want to see you."
Aiden frowned but nodded, "Let them in."
The officers were escorted in by An shortly after.
One of the officers stepped forward. "Mr. Hawk, I'm Detective Hernz. I'm afraid we have some questions for you."
Aiden inclined his head, "Of course, Detective . What can I help you with?"
"When was the last time you saw your wife or spoke to her?"
Aiden's brow furrowed. "This afternoon. She came here."
The detectives exchanged a look, prompting Aiden to narrow his eyes. "What's going on, Detective ?"
"Your wife is missing."
Aiden blinked, stunned. "Missing? How is that possible? Who reported this?"
"Your grandmother."
Aiden's mind raced. "What? My grandmother? When did she report this?"
"About an hour ago," Detective Hernz replied. "She said she couldn't reach your wife and became worried. According to her, your wife came here with the driver but never left with him. And later, when she contacted your assistant to ask for her, he mentioned that she'd left in the afternoon already."
"Mr. Hawk, do you have any idea where she might have gone? Any places she frequents or people she might visit?"
Aiden shook his head. "Look, Serena was in a coma for a year. Since then, the only places she has been are home and the hospital."
The Detective nodded, continuing to scrutinize Aiden. "Yes. We were informed about her recent recovery."
"What is it, Detective ?"
"Aren't you worried that your wife is missing?"
Aiden took a deep breath, trying to stay calm. "I am sure she will return soon."
The Detective nodded again. "Have you tried contacting her family? Or perhaps her friends? To see if she might have gone to see someone."
Aiden leaned back in his chair. "I am sure that my grandmother has told you that Serena does not have her memory. So she does not remember any friends."
"But as her husband, I'm sure you do? If you have any contacts, any leads you can provide at all that would be great."
Aiden shook his head, frustration creeping into his voice, "I don't know any of her friends. We married quickly. I never had a chance to meet her friends."
He didn't like that he was being interrogated like a criminal.
This time, the officer sighed. "Mr. Hawk, I find this situation incredibly peculiar."
"Why so?"
"The circumstances of your marriage with Miss Serena... raises questions. Your wife almost died but woke up mysteriously from a coma. It's been less than a week since then and she's missing? Aren't you worried for her at all? Might you have gotten into an argument with her recently?"
"What are you trying to imply, Detective ?" Aiden asked coldly, not appreciating the insinuations.
Detective Hernz shrugged. "I am merely asking if you found it odd, especially considering your grandmother's will reading that has been planned for her upcoming eightieth birthday. "
Aiden's jaw tightened. "My grandmother's will has nothing to do with this."
"Maybe not," Detective Hernz replied, "but we need to consider all angles. If there is any detail that you've withheld, now would be the time to share them."
"I have nothing more to share, officer. My wife only goes between home and the hospital.. If she is indeed missing, shouldn't your time be better spent finding her instead of speaking to me?"
"Oh, I will find her, Mr Hawk. And once I do, I will make sure to investigate this matter as well. There have been too many coincidences in this case. Now, if you'll excuse us, we have a case to solve."
Aiden clenched his jaw as the two detectives walked out of the office. The moment they were gone, Aiden called Serena.
"Pick up... come on, pick up," He muttered nervously under his breath.
Her phone was switched off, it went to voicemail after a couple of rings.
Where could she have gone?
"An, call security and get me the footage from this afternoon." Aiden ordered worriedly.
He thought back to her determined eyes and the way she said that she would find out the answers herself. But where could she have gone?
As he checked the security footage, finally, he saw her, walk onto the street and hail a cab.
"Contact the cab driver and find out where he..."
Aiden trailed off before he could complete the instructions. She really was too fearless, if she wanted to go to that place alone. Hurriedly, he grabbed his phone and muttered," We need to go to Lawrence street."
