Famous Among Top Surgeons in the 90s Chapter 109

Chapter 109: 【109】The response needs to be faster 2.

Under the shadowless light, the handsome contour of his face revealed outside the mask dangled alluringly. Xie Wanying watched carefully and noticed that Handsome Cao hadn’t sweated a drop.

By comparison, another senior, Huang Zhilei, being less experienced, was breaking out in quite a bit of sweat on his forehead. Director Lv, acting as First Assistant, suddenly shouted, “Aiya.”

Doctor Wang immediately followed with a cry, “Bleeding, there’s bleeding—”

In the tense moment, Huang Zhilei gave those two a disdainful glance: Damn it, isn’t this the time to be even calmer? What’s there to shout about? Of course, the Chief Surgeon was his senior and not these two people, so any issues were his senior’s business and not theirs.

The bleeding during the surgery wasn’t due to a doctor’s mistake but as Xie Wanying had predicted earlier, from the tumor. So, the amount of blood loss was quite significant. Blood pressure fluctuations and heart rate changes alarmed on the monitoring devices constantly.

Doctor Wang looked up to see where Xie Wanying was, since she had predicted this: “Where is she?”

The operating room nurse answered, “She ran to get us blood!”

Doctor Wang was utterly speechless, thinking: How can this female trainee run faster than interns who have been around for years, reacting as quickly as lightning and a rabbit. Such a medical student would be prized wherever she went, and every teacher would want her. Therefore, he realized why Director Lv had such a rapid change of attitude towards Xie Wanying.

The nurse watching Xie Wanying dart out and then rush back in was equally flabbergasted: A female medical student running that fast had never been seen before, with a speed that wasn’t the slightest bit inferior to a male student’s, and reactions even quicker.

Xie Wanying, bringing back a bag of blood, handed it over to the nurse and the anesthetist, focusing all her energy on the patient on the operating table. She only remembered her promise to the patient’s family, to never give up on the patient’s life, no matter what.

Blood was replenished in time, and with the surgical doctor’s full efforts to stop the bleeding, the patient’s blood pressure and heart rate stabilized.

Everyone in the operating room had sweated bullets. No one dared to relax because stopping the bleeding was only the first step; removing the tumor flawlessly was a far more challenging task.

From what could be seen in the current surgical area, the tumor was larger than what the CT scan showed, which is a common occurrence. Imaging examinations can only serve as an auxiliary tool; no condition can be confirmed until surgery.

The tumor was positioned close to various nerves, in line with the doctor’s preoperative prediction, making it all too easy to leave the patient with functional impairments postoperatively.

The surgeons carefully maneuvered around the surrounding nerves and blood vessels, then proceeded to remove the tumor. Steps that seemed easy actually took over two hours to complete. Therefore, neurosurgery often takes longer than general surgery.

An entire night had passed, who would have thought that this was New Year’s Eve night? At least, no one in the operating room could feel that it was New Year’s Eve. When the surgery ended, it was five-thirty in the morning.

Outside, Mr. Sun broke through the clouds, showing his face.

As Chief Surgeon, Cao Yong and Junior Huang Zhilei went outside to inform the patient’s family about the patient’s condition. Soon after, the anesthetist along with the operating room nurse would transport the patient to the ICU. The neurosurgery department, for the time being, had no vacant beds, so having the patient stay in the ICU for a couple of days after major surgery to stabilize their condition was a necessary precaution.

Upon returning, Huang Zhilei didn’t expect that in the short time he and his senior went outside, the two they left behind had gone directly for the younger sister.
