Famous Among Top Surgeons in the 90s Chapter 135

Chapter 135: 【135】Processed 1

“Things just got interesting. She doesn’t know who the director of admissions is.” Tao Zhijie’s face held a smile that wasn’t quite a smile; clearly, he found today’s drama unexpectedly entertaining.

Zhang Xiaohui panicked, “That’s not it, I called but no one answered; I didn’t meet the person. The director of admissions always uses a phone provided by the hospital, how could I have known who it was without meeting them first?”

“You’re right. The question is, did you call the director of admissions? We can check the unreturned call records on the director’s phone to know whether you made the call or not,” Tao Zhijie turned to remind her.

Zhang Xiaohui changed her story, “Could it be that I dialed the wrong number for the director of admissions?” As she spoke, one hand stroked her hair, making herself look as innocent as she possibly could.

“There might be some misunderstanding here—” Chang Jiawei started to say, but suddenly, after catching Fu Xinheng’s look, he clammed up.

“Doctor Zhang Xiaohui.”

That voice belonged to President Wu.

Indeed, everyone sitting there was smart, all were doctors, all were academic stars; how could they not have noticed that the big boss had come back.

Once President Wu spoke up, everyone else collectively kept quiet allowing the big boss to handle the situation.

Zhang Xiaohui stood upright, acting nonchalant. After all, nobody could be sure whose fault it was until things were cleared up. Perhaps, no one was at fault.

President Wu approached her and said, “Everyone makes mistakes now and then. When people make mistakes, it’s instinctive to look for excuses to defer the blame. But doctors are different. If a doctor does that, patients could die.”

Did the president think she was the one at fault? Zhang Xiaohui was so surprised that she was at a loss for words.

“I don’t know what you’re afraid of,” President Wu pointed out, “Your case might have simply been a misjudgment due to the patient’s complex condition. Your colleague kindly pointed it out to you, reminding you there was a problem in the implementation of treatment protocols and telling you to be more careful next time. It was for the betterment of your growth as a doctor. What were you thinking by so vehemently denying it?”

Zhang Xiaohui hung her head low, her mouth tightly shut.

Zhu Huicang, kind-hearted? Impossible! If he really had been kind-hearted, couldn’t this have been discussed privately with her? A private reminder was still a reminder—that would have been the normal way for colleagues to offer feedback. Wasn’t airing this in front of everyone else just a way to make her life difficult?

“You could have spoken to her in private,” Chang Jiawei tried to persuade Zhu Huicang, “Don’t give a young girl such a hard time on the New Year’s Day.”

“Did I not remind her? I asked her why she didn’t take Doctor Lin’s call. Wouldn’t any normal person call Doctor Lin back immediately? But she, on the other hand, even forgot who she had handed over her shift to in the afternoon; where do you think her mind was?” Zhu Huicang retorted.

“I understand you’re angry, calm down first,” Chang Jiawei said, shaking his head with a wry smile, “We are not heated youngsters of seventeen or eighteen.” In his eyes, Zhu Huicang seemed to have been provoked today as if he had swallowed a barrel of gunpowder.

Criticism is fine, but there’s no need for such agitation.

He, hot-blooded? Zhu Huicang glared at him.

Hey, that’s because he witnessed firsthand a child who was close to losing not just a mother but, potentially, a father too. As a cardiologist, he knew these were things that could have been avoided in advance. When someone makes a mistake, they need to correct it quickly to prevent a repeat in the future. Yet this person stubbornly refused to admit her oversight. Who wouldn’t be furious upon seeing such a situation?

“Go see the patient after dinner,” President Wu ordered Zhang Xiaohui, “Then write a self-examination report and submit it to the department leader; let the department handle this issue.”

Zhang Xiaohui’s face turned deathly pale.
