Chapter 141: Childhood friend came by 1
The next morning, Xie Wanying received a phone call in her dorm.
“Yingying, I’m at the train station.”
The voice on the other end made Xie Wanying very surprised, “Li Xuan, you came so quickly? I thought you wouldn’t come over until after the eighth day of the Lunar New Year at least.”
“I hopped on the train right after our New Year’s reunion dinner.” Wu Lixuan said, “This was the only time I could get a train ticket. Coming over to the Capital earlier allows me to soak up the festive atmosphere. How have you been?”
“I just so happen to be on duty these next few days for the New Year,” Xie Wanying said awkwardly. “I mentioned it to my mom and she said she would let you know, to have you come later.”
“Auntie probably got busy with the New Year’s festivities and forgot to tell me. No problem, I’ll be fine exploring on my own. Plus, the most important thing this trip is to see you, to see if you’ve lost weight? Being a doctor is tough. I brought some things for you from your mom, including the cured meat you like, homemade by her.” Wu Lixuan bragged about the local specialties she brought from home, all handmade by Yingying’s mother, over the phone.
“Li Xuan, I happen to need to take care of a child, it’s a long story, so I can’t come to the train station to pick you up. Can you make it to my school on your own? I’ll wait for you at the school gate.” As Xie Wanying said this, she felt very apologetic to her old friend who had come all this way to visit her.
“A child? Do you have a child now?” Wu Lixuan was greatly surprised.
“No, not my child, a patient’s child!” Xie Wanying clarified forcefully.
“So being a doctor requires you to take care of children now?” Wu Lixuan laughed heartily. “I’m ignorant when it comes to doctors’ matters, no worries. I’ll take a taxi over.”
“Do you know where my school is?”
“How could a taxi driver not know where your well-known school is? What you don’t realize is that I brag about having an amazing childhood friend who’s going to be a big-shot doctor at Guoxie. Others should be jealous of me. Yingying, you don’t mind me boasting about you, do you?” Wu Lixuan joked and boasted.
Xie Wanying was amused by her childhood friend.
With the old friend coming over, Xie Wanying got the child up and took them to the school cafeteria for breakfast. Zhenzhen was happy to hear that Doctor Sister had a friend coming, feeling that Doctor Sister’s friend must also be a kind-hearted big sister.
“Wait a bit, after we meet another sister, she’ll take you to see your dad,” Xie Wanying promised the little one.
Zhenzhen nodded her little head.
After breakfast, Xie Wanying took the child to wait for her old friend at the school gate by the security office.
Right around the scheduled time, a taxi arrived at the Guoxie School gate. The car door opened, and a girl in her early twenties hopped out, her short black hair exuding a capable vibe, flamboyantly fashionable in a bright yellow down jacket, quite tall, about the same height as Xie Wanying, with delicate features.
Recognizing her old friend Wu Lixuan, Xie Wanying ran over to greet her excitedly.
“Don’t rush!” Wu Lixuan stopped her as she attempted to grab the luggage. “We each can carry one bag.”
Xie Wanying took the heavier bag.
Wu Lixuan was worried about her, “Can you handle it? You seem to have slimmed down.”
“I haven’t slimmed down.” Xie Wanying was adamant about that; it was just that the last few nights on shift at the hospital made her tired, and her face without its usual vivacity made her look thinner, “Really, I’ve built up some muscle.”
Wu Lixuan was stunned by what she said next, “I never knew being a doctor required building muscle.”
“Of course it does. Otherwise, how would I have the strength to save people?” Xie Wanying said. “Many medical procedures can’t be properly executed without strength.”
