“Heading back to the dorm?” asked Cao Yong.
“No, heading back to the department. There’s a patient I need to see,” Xie Wanying informed her senior. “Have you eaten, Senior Cao?”
“Not yet,” Cao Yong said, thinking to himself that if he had known he would run into her, he would have come earlier. He then asked, “Did you eat alone?”
“Yes,” Xie Wanying answered.
“If you ever find it boring to eat alone, you can join me,” Cao Yong offered.
Does Senior Cao often eat alone? Xie Wanying blinked in surprise.
Her phone buzzed insistently—it was likely the nurse from her department calling to hurry her along. Xie Wanying prepared to leave and said to her senior, “I need to go, Senior Cao. Enjoy your meal.”
Telling him to enjoy his meal? A smile played in Cao Yong’s eyes as his voice took on a serious tone, cautioning her, “Since you’ve just eaten, don’t run to avoid causing digestive tract disorders.”
She acknowledged Senior Cao’s concern with a nod and turned to leave. This time, she didn’t dare to quicken her pace, knowing he was right. She thought to herself that as a doctor, Senior Cao really knew how to focus on the medical essentials when expressing his concern.

Cao Yong turned to him and squinted, “Who invited who for a meal? Wasn’t it you who said over the phone that your wife was on a night shift and you were whining about being bored eating alone?”
“Never mind, let’s just go eat,” Zhu Huicang pulled him towards the food line, muttering, “Why are we eating in the hospital cafeteria instead of going out? Is it because you felt you might run into her here?”
“No, someone’s coming over.”
“Who?” Zhu Huicang asked, turning his head just as he saw Gao Zhaocheng approaching.
“Hello, both of you,” Gao Zhaocheng greeted his two juniors, standing together with them at the window and getting food.
What’s going on? Zhu Huicang shot Cao Yong a questioning look.
It was always so busy on the clinical side, and it was rare for brothers, especially those from different departments, to meet. Besides, they weren’t in regular contact with Gao Zhaocheng.
The three of them filled their trays and found a small table in the corner to sit down.
As they ate, the conversation unfolded.
“I wanted to ask you, do you know who arranged for her to be with Tan Kelin?” Gao Zhaocheng brought up the reason for their meeting today.
“When you said it on the phone, I thought you knew who had arranged for her to be with Tan Kelin,” Cao Yong responded.
