This was a war combining air and ground, once the Harpies landed, the ground troops naturally took over, before those Erde could crawl back into their burrows.
Those Harpies still entangled in capture nets were dragged by the Gnolls emerging from nearby burrows, hands and feet all akimbo, into the darkness of the caves.
Just as this wave of attacks succeeded, another team of Erde net-catchers flew out from the Eagle Cliff Burrow, searching for their respective targets, and immediately using capture nets to finish them off once they had them.
Only, due to a time gap, they didn’t catch as many Harpies at once as the first wave did.
They were scattered all over.
One here, two there, and then another one arrived over here.
The Harpies trapped in the nets were dragged to the ground one after another as if they were dumplings being boiled.
There were crackling and popping sounds.
The scene was unbearably bloody.
With every Harpy that hit the ground, all the Gnolls couldn’t help but let out victory cheers, signifying that their enemy’s strength had decreased yet again.
The Dragon Roar War Drum had barely sounded ten times.
Twenty-two Harpies were slain.
The entire population of Harpies at Eagle Cliff was barely over a hundred, and considering those previously assassinated, a third was now gone.
In the sky, the Harpy formation had become somewhat sparse.
The Harpies were visibly frightened, the Harpy Queen couldn’t care less about performing the Dance of Seduction or singing the Song of Seduction any longer, she howled in rage, turning with her Harpies to retreat.
Her intelligence was obviously superior to the other Harpies’, knowing their enemies came prepared today, and continuing the battle would yield no advantages for them.
The Gnolls of Eagle Cliff Burrow had just started turning the tide in their favor and were not ready to let it go, they pursued relentlessly, capturing three more Harpies in the blink of an eye, just as before.
The Harpy Queen screeched furiously, her blood-red wings beating fiercely, changing direction and hurtling back into the fray, her claws shimmering with a seductive blood-red hue.
An overeager Erde, unable to slow down in time, crashed directly into the claws of the Harpy Queen, who with a single swipe tore open his entire chest, his organs spilling out, dying instantly on the spot.
The Harpy Queen, with a body much larger than that of the ordinary Harpies, still possessed speed and dexterity surpassing theirs. She leaped up into a dance once again, but this time, it was not the Dance of Seduction, but a dance of slaughter.
Her four limbs were utilized to their fullest extent, each one a lethal weapon; getting caught by any of them meant certain death from the subsequent rending.
In the blink of an eye, four Erde had lost their lives to her.
Until her brain was hit by a bullet—a Psychic Bullet.
Her unconsciousness was very brief, lasting only a count of two or three.
The Erde with the capture nets, who were just eagerly charging in, found that her blood-red eyes snapped open again. With a vigorous flap of her wings, she easily evaded the nets and seized the momentum for a new round of slaughter.
Four Erde charged her, two died instantly, one was crippled and spiraled down, leaving only one to flee far away.
This was still the result of the Psychic Bullet exploding in her brain a second time.
Otherwise, all four would have been left behind.
The ferocity of the Harpy Queen severely shocked the pursuing Erde, reminding them starkly of their own frailty in close combat against these Bird Demons, and that they absolutely couldn’t get too close to them.
Their brilliant victory today was based on tactical supremacy, not a sudden leap in their own strength.
Under the Harpy Queen’s frenzied counterattack, the Erde’s subsequent victories were relatively limited, capturing only three more Harpies in their nets.
The remaining Harpies all fled into the distance, still retaining their absolute advantage in speed.
Under the leadership of the Harpy Queen, the Harpies didn’t return to their nests but flew towards the far distance instead.
"The Bird Demons have fled, we have driven the Bird Demons away!"
All the Gnolls let out triumphant cheers.
