All his defenses, vigilance, and aloofness crumbled when he faced her.
“I will accompany you from now on,” he promised her.
His burning gaze settled on her fair and delicate but frail little face.
Jasmine Yale blinked at him, and after more than ten seconds, she asked seriously, “Really?”
Jasmine seemed very happy. Her mother had left, but from now on, she would have a good-looking little brother to accompany her.
Meeting Sylvan Cheney was the happiest thing for her during that period.

Under the light, she looked at him, and he looked back at her just like that.

Her little hand had somehow tightly grasped Sylvan Cheney’s shirt, clinging on, impossible to pry loose.
