After returning to the mansion upon learning that his mother fell off her wheelchair and passed out, Senator Gregory was greatly relieved to find his mother still breathing.
Aside from a scrapped knee, twisted wrist bumped forehead and slightly dislocated hip joint, the doctor assured the concerned family members gathered outside the old woman's room that she would be fine.
"Can I sleep in Grandma's room and keep her company for the night?" Gwen offered in a pleasantly sweet voice. Hoping to put a smile on her father's scrunched face.
"That sounds like a terrific idea my darling. But you only got discharged from the hospital today. You still need your rest for you and the baby. I'm sure your father wouldn't mind." Regina said, staring lovingly at her husband.
"Not at all. Do exactly as your mother has spoken, sweetheart. Go to bed. Your mother and I will take care of the rest." The senator manage to say, while battling an inner war of guilt and rage.
"If you both insist." Gwen pouted as she made her way grudgingly towards her father.
"If it makes you feel any better, Madam Gwen, your grandmother is currently under sedative. She needs plenty of rest and no disturbance. I'm sure tomorrow morning, you can come to her room and check on her."
"Okay. I'll just retire to my room."
Gwen stood on the tip of her toe as she leaned closer, and planted a kiss on her father's cheek.
"Goodnight my angel." Senator Gregory replied in his usual cheerful voice even though it lacked a bit of warmth.
"Goodnight Mom." Gwen blew kisses to her mother before sauntering towards her bedroom.
Regina on the other hand kept observing her husband, taking notes of his varying emotions which were dancing between warmth and cold. She could tell something was off with him. Maybe Amelia had confided in him. But if she did, why hasn't he said anything?
Regina was bent on finding out the truth tonight while sleeping with her husband.
"Senator and Mrs Shawls, permit me to take my leave now. I'll be here first thing in the morning to check up on my patient."
"Okay, doctor. Thank you for coming." The senator walked the doctor down the stairs towards the foyer speaking privately to him about his mother's condition.
Regina quickly dashed into her bedroom and changed into a sexy nightgown before coming out to meet her husband who was still downstairs, addressing Nana's nurse. She was tightly stunned to see the nurse on her knees weeping hysterically as the senator angrily lashed out at her.
Even though Regina had used the nurse sometime ago for her dirty business, she didn't care if the nurse was fired.
"I want you to go back to your quarters, pack your miserable things this very night and get out of this mansion within the next thirty minutes. If after thirty minutes, you are still here, I will make sure I have you arrested." The senator said wagging his forefinger threateningly at the nurse.
"Madam, please help me beg the boss." The nurse crawled on her knees towards Regina as she later made her way to her husband.
"Do not let him send me away. I swear I didn't do anything to Nana. I just stepped out to get her water and came back only to find her on the floor. Someone else must have pushed her and not me."
"Enough!" Regina snapped angrily at the lady. "Stop right there and do not touch me with those filthy hands. How dare you open that stinky mouth and beg me after what you did to my mother-in-law. We gave you everything and this is how you repay us? By hurting the very woman who puts food on your table."
The nurse shook her head, crying even harder.
The senator could tell the nurse was telling the truth on this matter. He could tell that she had been framed for his mother's condition. But, Regina was the same person who employed and recommended her. So, there was no point keeping her around since she might be working with them. Also, he wanted to make his heartless wife fall prey to her illusion of control until the day of reckoning.
"I don't blame you." Regina continued, shaking her head. "I blame the agency who recommended you to us. You home nurses are all the same. You lie, steal, manipulate, and sometimes try to hurt your employers. But guess what, it ends tonight. "
Senator chuckled inwardly as he stared at his wife from behind, calling out the exact qualities that define her. Talk about the kettle calling the pot black.
'How did I get entangled with this woman again?' The senator pondered. 'A drunken one-night stand that led to pregnancy and an adorable child.' He shook his head bitterly, recalling how heartbroken his wife felt after learning that he had a mistress who also had a girl child for him.
"You should be grateful that my husband hasn't arrested you." Regina voice echoed through the senator's thoughts. Now if you know what is good for you, you will go back to your quarters, pack every single thing you brought to this house and not the ones we gave to you and, get out."
Regina yelled, standing beside her husband.
"But I swear on my late mother's grave, I didn't do anything." The nurse wept bitterly, feeling completely helpless. "Please don't send me away. I have no place to go to. It's already late in the night and my family lives hundreds of kilometres away from this place."
"Does it look like I care?" Regina shot her a nasty look. "Sam..." She yelled at the top of her voice.
"I'm standing right here Madam." The butler came forward.
"Get the security to throw this thing out of our house."
"Sir... please..." The weeping nurse turned to the senator, sensing her mistake of trying to beg a she devil.
Without saying a word, the senator turned around and walked away, climbing the stairs slowly while his wife trailed behind him.
"Sweetheart, are you still mad at me for coming to get you at Judith's place?" Regina asked in a sultry voice as she slipped her arm around his.
The senator struggled with his chaotic emotions as he tried to reply in a civil voice.
"You embarrassed me by coming down there and quarreling with the head of security."
"If you hadn't switched off your phone, I wouldn't have come over. Moreover, it's your mother's health we are talking about. You wouldn't forgive me if anything had happened to her."
The senator released a frustrated sigh as he stopped in front of his bedroom. He turned to look at his wife, whose hands were now wrapped sensually around his waist and her big boobs brushing against his chest.
"It's fine. I am no longer mad at you. Now go to bed. I'm very tired."
"Okay, darling. Lead the way." Regina cooed, moistening her lips, her eyes brimming with lust.
"I meant you should go to bed in your room." The senator said harshly as she freed himself from her hold. "I'm very tired and I need to sleep."
"But I need you, baby. You're hardly around and I've been so lonely of late. I want you tonight. I miss you. I want you to make love to me and you can start by kissing me right here." Regina purred, as she tried to kiss him.
"Regina!" The senator called rather harshly, his sharp voice snapping her out of her delusion causing her to freeze.
"Stop behaving like a child. We are not teenagers. I said I'm very tired and I need some rest. Go to bed and hug your pillow if you are that needy. Good night." He stormed into his room and slammed the door shut in her face.
