Evelyn Clayton trembled as she closed her eyes tightly, seemingly absorbing endless warmth from James Grant.
But her heart was full of bitter laughter.
Only at times did she dare to let her emotions spill out a little.

At the hospital, the doctor did a simple examination of Evelyn.

"It’s nothing serious, just be careful not to let the wounds get infected, especially with the rain these days."
After getting the medicine, Evelyn walked out of the consultation room and saw James smoking under the eaves at the hospital entrance, watching the rain.
Evelyn walked forward slowly, and James looked over at the sound, his eyes unfathomable.
After a brief eye contact, Evelyn tugged at the corners of her lips, showing a stiff smile, "Give me one."
James was slightly taken aback and instinctively took out the cigarette box.
When Evelyn reached out to take it, James realized and tried to pull back, but Evelyn quickly stopped him.
Taking out a cigarette, Evelyn lit it and exhaled a long stream of smoke.
The smoke drifted into the rain and soon disappeared without a trace.
James looked at Evelyn in slight astonishment, watching her skillfully exhale the smoke. Her pale, almost transparent skin added a touch of fragility, as if she might vanish with the smoke and rain at any moment.
"When did you learn this?" James didn’t know what to say, hesitating before asking dryly.
Evelyn’s lips twitched, amused and helpless, "I’ve always known, but I don’t smoke much. I do it when I’m troubled."
She flicked the cigarette ash skillfully, as if chatting with an old friend, "I’ll have to trouble you to take me to the hotel later."
When John Jacobs kidnapped her, all her luggage was taken away. Currently, the police haven’t returned her belongings, and Evelyn didn’t even have her phone on her.
James didn’t say anything, only took the medicine from Evelyn’s hand and then led her to the car.

Realizing the hotel was just a street away from where she had stayed before, Evelyn fell silent for a long time.
"I haven’t touched anything in the bathroom; you should take a hot shower first, so you don’t catch a cold." James said in a low voice, turning on the air conditioning before turning to leave, "I’ll bring the clothes to the door later."
