Shane Sinclair suddenly spoke, seemingly off-topic, but had already answered Yara Reagan’s question.
Yara opened her mouth but didn’t know what to say, so she silently closed it again.
Shane Sinclair’s feelings for Evelyn Clayton might not even be apparent to himself, and as an outsider, she felt even less need to uncover it.
Fortunately, Evelyn Clayton’s state didn’t last long. When dusk fell, Yara brought some food and softly invited Evelyn to eat.
Evelyn Clayton seemed to wake from a dream; sitting hunched over for so long had left her waist and back somewhat sore.
"What time is it?" Evelyn Clayton’s voice was very low, as if afraid of waking Sharon. "Where’s big brother?"
"There’s still something going on at the company, so he left first. He said he’d come over later to switch with you." Yara set the food and pulled Evelyn to the dining table to sit down, "You eat first. Shane should be here by the time you finish eating."
Evelyn Clayton took a sip of water and said, "I’ll take care of Sharon. Don’t let him come over; he still has to go to the company tomorrow—"
"Don’t you have to go to work tomorrow too?" Yara sighed, "You just returned to your post, and now you’re taking leave—isn’t that not so good?"
Evelyn Clayton didn’t hesitate, "Compared to Sharon, none of that matters."
Yara frowned even deeper, wanting to persuade her further, when she suddenly heard a commotion from outside.
"Sir, you can’t go in!"
Evelyn Clayton paused with the chopsticks in her hand and looked up towards outside.
"Keep eating, don’t mind it." Yara said, getting up to check.
When she stepped out, Yara saw the visitor, her expression instantly turning cold.
The person stopped at the stairway entrance by the caregiver and nurse was James Grant.
James Grant happened to look over at this moment, and their eyes met with varied expressions.
Yara walked over slowly and softly said to the nurse, "It’s okay, I know him. You can get back to work, I’ll handle it."
The nurse said nothing and left upon hearing that; but the caregiver looked doubtful, softly saying, "Miss Yara, but Director Sinclair said—"
"It’s fine, I won’t let him in easily." Yara said calmly.
The caregiver finally left, albeit hesitantly.
James Grant lowered his gaze, glancing at Yara, offering a lukewarm thank you before heading towards Sharon’s ward.
Yara blocked his path.
"I said, I won’t let you in easily." Yara looked coldly at James Grant, "How did you find this place?"
James Grant suppressed a slight impatience in his heart, responding indifferently, "That’s not important."
With that, he sidestepped Yara and moved forward.
"James Grant." Yara called after him once more, her tone icy.
James Grant halted and turned slightly to look over.
"Evelyn is in there too. You might not answer me, but you can’t possibly not answer her." Yara sneered, "Do you want Evelyn to think you’re always monitoring her?"
Seeing the hesitation flicker in James Grant’s eyes, Yara’s tone softened slightly, "James Grant, Evelyn has already compromised and is willing to arrange a meeting between you and Sharon, so wait patiently. Don’t mess things up like you did five years ago."
