After Su Luo's goal, the fourth official raised the board for second-half stoppage time—six minutes added on.
For Arsenal, that meant six minutes to change their fate.
To be honest, six minutes was more than enough time to make something happen.
As soon as play resumed, Arsenal's head coach, Arsène Wenger, wasted no time. He rushed to the sideline, his voice hoarse as he frantically shouted at his players to push forward and attack.
Wenger believed in his team's ability to pull off a miracle.
Unfortunately, they couldn't deliver.
The absolute focal point of Arsenal's attack was naturally Alexandre Lacazette. However, in these dying minutes, Lacazette found himself isolated, with little support from his teammates. As a striker, his ability to dribble and break through on his own was fairly average, and he needed the backing of the midfield to truly shine.
But, much to Wenger's frustration, Arsenal's midfield was completely shut down by Chelsea's aggressive play.
Lacazette had no options.
With no other choice, Lacazette drifted into deeper areas, hoping to create something.
Finally, after relentless pressing, Aaron Ramsey managed to win the ball. Without hesitation, he played it to Lacazette.
But fate wasn't on Lacazette's side tonight.
Just as he received Ramsey's pass near the edge of Chelsea's penalty area, Lacazette tried to change pace and slip past David Luiz.
However, Luiz wasn't having any of it.
Before Lacazette could even set up his shot, both David Luiz and Antonio Rüdiger closed in on him, giving him no space or time to react.
Blocked on both sides, Lacazette's attack was snuffed out.
Chelsea's defense held firm once again.
In the final moments of the match, Chelsea players expertly controlled the pace, using their fitness and ball-handling skills to keep Arsenal at bay.
As the clock approached the final minute of stoppage time, Danny Welbeck received the ball on the right flank.
Initially, Welbeck looked to cross, but seeing how many Chelsea defenders had packed the box, he quickly changed his plan.
Without thinking twice, Welbeck went for a direct approach, bursting forward with blistering speed.
He was like a streak of black lightning, accelerating past Chelsea's defenders.
Using his impressive physicality, Welbeck muscled past the opposition and cut inside, now within striking distance of Chelsea's goal. It seemed, for a moment, that he might recreate Su Luo's magic and take a shot from the edge of the box.
But Welbeck wasn't Su Luo.
There was a gap—a difference in class.
Just as Welbeck prepared to shoot, N'Golo Kanté appeared, closing the space in an instant.
Kanté didn't hesitate. He made a quick, decisive move, using his body to outmuscle Welbeck and cleanly steal the ball.
