Catching his ink-like black eyes, Xia Ning’s heart tightened. There was a certain thought jumping out of her heart but she killed it quickly. Impossible!
She looked away to the dishes on the table. Five dishes and a soup. How could two people eat that much?

This thought made her feel even weirder. Since when did she have such wishful thinking?
“Mummy, drink milk!” Enoch handed a packet of milk over to Xia Ning.
Xia Ning lowered her head and took the milk. She smiled and said, “Thank you.”
Enoch ran to Qiao Yu happily. “Daddy, when we have dinner, I want to sit next to Mummy.”
Qiao Yu patted his son on the head. “You should go ask for your mum’s okay.” As he spoke, he turned to Xia Ning.
Xia Ning’s face was a bit stiff. Qiao Yu’s words were telling her that in the past years of Enoch’s childhood, even though she gave birth to him, she had been a complete stranger to him. Therefore, Enoch had to be polite to her.
“Mummy? Can I?” Enoch ran over and looked at Xia Ning with hope on his face.
Xia Ning smiled slightly. “Of course.” She carried Enoch onto the chair directly and looked at Qiao Yu. He already sat down, so she sat down as well.
It was very quiet at the table. She did not know what to talk about to the ex-husband. The kid? She was a failed mother and it would lead to being guilty eventually.
So just take care of Enoch. Xia Ning used her chopsticks to pick up a piece of meat and put it in his bowl. “Eat more meat!”
“Don’t just eat meat. Have some vegetables.”

Qiao Yu did not think Xia Ning would grab food for Enoch. Seeing her putting rice into her mouth one by one with the chopsticks, he frowned. “Do you not like my food?”
Xia Ning looked up at him and shook her head. “No, it’s good.” As she spoke she picked up some peppers and threw them into her mouth and then…
“Cough cough…” She covered her mouth to cough. Her throat felt like it was burning and she coughed so hard that her tears almost came out.
Enoch next to her laughed out at once. “Silly Mummy, silly Mummy.”
No one noticed when Qiao Yu had walked behind her and gave her a glass of water. Seeing her coughing in pain, he blamed. “How old are you… Just like a kid, choking while you eat.” As he spoke he patted her on the back.
Feeling the warm hand on her back and hearing his soft voice, Xia Ning’s whole body felt very awkward. She stood up in reflex. Bam! She felt as if her head was cracking from the collision. She held her head and felt so much pain that she forgot about the spicy feeling down her throat.
And Qiao Yu was holding his jaw and glaring at the perpetrator. “Why did you stand up all of a sudden?”
Xia Ning opened her mouth and could not find the right thing to say. She could not say that he was too gentle to her and she was so not used to it that she wanted to flee with fear.
“Sorry,” Xia Ning lowered her head and said to Qiao Yu. “My bad.”
Seeing Xia Ning’s awkwardness, Qiao Yu’s eyes flashed. He said coldly, “I’ve lost my appetite. You can finish the rest.” As he spoke, he walked to the living room and sat down on the couch to watch TV.
Xia Ning saw his coldness and her heart felt relieved. Seeing him like this, she had no need to guess. Because this was the real him.
