Enoch didn’t know what to say. Staring at Qiao Yu in bewilderment, he pouted. “I’m spending it on my mummy!”
“Your mum is my wife. If she needs money, she’ll get it from me!” Qiao Yu frowned. “Keep your money for your own wife!”
Xia Ning was rendered speechless by the conversation. What on earth were they talking about? Was that Qiao Yu’s idea of teaching his kid?
Enoch turned to Xia Ning with an aggrieved look on his face. “Mummy… Daddy is so mean to me.”
Darting a glance at Qiao Yu, Xia Ning said to Enoch. “Sweetheart, dad was only joking. Mummy will be so happy if Enoch gives me money in the future. Of course, I’ll take it. But now, you need to save them first.”
“Yes!” Enoch nodded. “I’ll save them and buy you many yummy things!”
Xia Ning rubbed her son’s head and smiled. He was a little foodie as well as a money-grubber!
“There, stop clinging to your mother. Go count how much money you have there and I’ll give you the same amount,” said Qiao Yu all of a sudden.
Enoch’s eyes lit up at those words. “Daddy, promise?”
“I promise!”
Hearing that, Enoch went back to unpacking the red packets and counting the money.
Xia Ning watched with her mouth falling open. That actually worked? Darting a look at Qiao Yu, she was even more impressed. The man surely knew Enoch well.
“Come, let’s go outside,” said Qiao Yu to Xia Ning.
Xia Ning was confused. “What for?”
“You’ll see!” Taking Xia Ning’s hand, Qiao Yu led her out.
Despite the heavy snow the night before, there was no snow on the lawn. The roof was still covered by a thick layer of snow.
Xia Ning’s face lit up when she saw the three snowmen on the lawn.
To be more precise, they were two bigger snowmen and a smaller one. The small one stood between the two bigger ones and judging by the clothes, the two bigger ones were a man and a woman.
The bigger snowmen were about a meter tall and even the smaller one was half a meter tall. Building them had to be some serious work. Moreover, the facial features had been carefully sculpted and one could tell that the maker had put in a lot of effort.
Xia Ning studied all three of them, then asked Qiao Yu by her side. “Did you make these?” Although she already knew the answer.
Qiao Yu looked at her. “Do you like them?”
Xia Ning nodded. “I like them a lot. Thank you!” He promised her to make her a snowman the night before, but she didn’t expect to see these today. He had probably moved the snow from somewhere else. She wondered how early he had gotten up.
“Are you tired?” Xia Ning asked Qiao Yu gently.
Qiao Yu looked into her eyes. “Not at all!” As long as she was happy, he would do anything!
Turning toward the snowmen, Xia Ning sighed with emotions. “My dad and I used to build three snowmen like these when I was little and I was the one standing between my parents. Happy times are always the shortest and before I knew it, I have become a mother too. I have my own child now.”
“I’ll build you a snowman every year from now on!” Qiao Yu stepped forward and took Xia Ning’s hand. “We’ll be a very happy family!”
Xia Ning smiled. “Yes.” They would be very happy indeed.
Just then, Qiao Yu took out a red square box out of his pocket, opened it in front of Xia Ning, and dropped to one knee. He looked at her and his black eyes were filled with his deepest love. “Xia Ning, will you marry me?”
