Something seemed to gather in Qiao Yu’s black eyes and he turned to the direction of the voice with a gaze as cold as a blade.
That look made Jiang Peiyun lower her head immediately.
Qiao Zhiming was mad about Qiao Yu ignoring him only just then, but his face turned livid when he heard Jiang Peiyun’s words. Obviously, it wasn’t something one was supposed to say on the first day of a new year.
“I didn’t hear my second aunt clearly. Can you repeat that?” Looking at Jiang Peiyun, Qiao Yu suddenly said.
Jiang Peiyun shrunk her neck involuntarily when she met Qiao Yu’s cold gaze. By then, she had undoubtedly realized that she had said the wrong thing. She could think however she wanted, but saying it aloud would probably offend someone.
Recalling what her family had gone through in the past few years, Jiang Peiyun was disgruntled.
“Yu, your mother is my sister-in-law and the hostess of the first branch of this family. We can live with her not showing up on the family reunion dinner on Chinese New Year’s Eve, but she won’t even greet us with a ‘happy new year’ on the first day of a lunar year. Does she have any respect for your grandfather, the senior member of this family, at all?” Jiang Peiyun looked stubbornly at Qiao Yu. “Plus, what was that attitude you gave to your second uncle just then? You might be in charge of Shengshi, but you’re still his nephew. It’s only natural that you show him due respect.”
All other family members were embarrassed by Jiang Peiyun’s words.
What was wrong with this woman? Why would she provoke Qiao Yu like that? She had thought too highly of her branch of the family.
But they understood why Jiang Peiyun was so against Qiao Yu’s family. It was rumored that the Jiang Group, the business of Jiang Peiyun’s own family, went bankrupt last year and Qiao Yu was behind the whole operation. Jiang Peiyun had hated Qiao Yu to the core because of that.
“You stupid woman! You don’t know what you’re talking about! Shut your mouth!” Qiao Zhiming bellowed at Jiang Peiyun, then turned to Qiao Yu. “Yu, please don’t be mad. Your aunt just has the habit of speaking her mind!”
He only shut Jiang Peiyun up after she had said everything and his explanation was rather ambiguous, too. By “speaking her mind”, he meant that she was telling the truth and her only fault was to have said it aloud.
It was obvious that Qiao Zhiming and his wife were both angry with Qiao Yu and that they had decided to put on airs in order to teach Qiao Yu a lesson about respecting his senior. However, when one thought too highly of themselves, they would usually end up humiliating themselves.
Lowering his gaze, Qiao Yu kept his face emotionless. “After my father passed away, my grandfather is the only one in the Qiao family that I’ll consider my senior.”
Those words shocked everyone and everyone stared at Qiao Yu in astonishment. What was that supposed to mean? Was he going to cut Qiao Zhiming and his family off?
Qiao Zhiming’s face turned livid at those words and he glared at Qiao Yu. It was so obvious that the man had no respect for his second uncle whatsoever and he had just humiliated them without hesitation!
“Yu, so what if you’re the president of Shengshi? Don’t you forget for a minute that we’re all part of the Qiao family!” said Jiang Peiyun angrily. “How can you turn you back on your family like this? You’ll be accused by everyone!”
Hearing that, Qiao Youtian glanced at Qiao Yu, then smirked. “Mum, he has all the power and we’re no longer considered his family. He’s so cold toward us because he’s afraid that we’re going to ask for our share of the inheritance. After all, my dad has his claim to the family money too. Qiao Yu would be dreaming if he thinks he can have it all to himself!”
