Leng Yan shook his right hand, frowning slightly before quickly relaxing. “It’s nothing.”
He definitely seemed like something was wrong.
“No, we’re going to the hospital now.”
Xia Nuo insisted on taking him to the hospital for an X-ray and check-up. The doctor said there was no bone injury and prescribed some medication to apply for a few days.
Zhang Jian dropped them off downstairs, retrieved his bicycle, and went home. Xia Nuo and others also went upstairs back home, and she pulled Leng Yan to her place.
Grabbing his right hand, she poured some red flower oil and, imitating how her mom would do a massage, helped him rub the swollen area.
“Why were you so silly? I fell, so what? You didn’t have to rush over to help me up; otherwise, you wouldn’t have gotten hurt.”
Leng Yan kept silent, just gritting his teeth to endure the pain.
Seeing his stoic expression, Xia Nuo lightened her touch, “Hang in there; it’ll be fine soon.”
After applying the medication, she patted his head and smiled, coaxing him, “Sit down for a bit. As a reward, your sister will make you something delicious.”
“You’re not my sister.” Leng Yan suddenly retorted.
Xia Nuo felt a bit upset; she had always treated him like a little brother, yet he didn’t acknowledge her as his sister.
“Fine, fine, not if you say so. Who cares to be your sister anyway?” Miss Xia huffed in annoyance, getting up to head to the kitchen. As soon as she took a step, her hand was suddenly grabbed by him.
Leng Yan pursed his lips and whispered, “I didn’t mean that… You’re very good to me, I know… But we’re not actual siblings.”
Xia Nuo instantly beamed, habitually patting his head, “Haha, I get it, I get it. No need to explain, look at you blushing.”
This boy must have never said anything embarrassing before; he looked so innocent.
Leng Yan, a bit embarrassed and annoyed, shook off her hand and turned his head away from her. Seriously, was he really that easy to embarrass?
After fiddling around in the kitchen for a while, Xia Nuo brought out a serving of strawberry ice cream.
“Eat up, I made it myself.” Actually, it was pretty simple; just mix strawberries and ice cream.
Leng Yan didn’t mind how the ice cream looked and started eating with a spoon.
Sitting across from him, Xia Nuo couldn’t help but ask, “You seem to really like eating.”
“Well, kids need to eat a lot to grow taller.”
Leng Yan glanced at her, “In two years, I’ll be taller than you.”
“Not necessarily!” Xia Nuo retorted defiantly.
Though she knew he was telling the truth. He was already quite tall for his age, and recently, it seemed he’d grown even more, while she remained the same height. At the rate he was growing, it wouldn’t take long for him to surpass her.
Ah, seeing the ‘child’ she raised grow taller and taller gave her such a comforting feeling.
Indeed, in Xia Nuo’s eyes, Leng Yan was just a child; she treated him like a little brother, even somewhat like a pet. Feeding him every day, she had a sense of pride that this child was raised by her.
Though she herself was just a kid, she thought of Leng Yan as the kid in front of her. If he knew her thoughts, he might never eat at her place again.
