Leng Yan handed her the peeled apple, but Xia Nuo glanced at it and didn’t take it: “It’s too big, I can’t finish it.”
He split the apple in half, sharing it with her.
After eating the apple, Leng Yan handed her a tissue to wipe her hands and asked if she needed anything else. She said she didn’t need anything, so he sat properly by the bedside.
“Xia Nuo, I want to explain something about that day to you.”
“What?” She was momentarily stunned before understanding what he meant.
“No need to explain, I’m not insistent on knowing your matters. If it’s unnecessary to tell me, then don’t.”
“No, I need to explain.” Leng Yan was very persistent, and under his explanation, Xia Nuo learned why he drank alcohol and was so sad.
His mom was going to marry another man, which originally wasn’t a big deal. But the man’s family didn’t want him as a burden, so his mom thought of sending him to live with her brother, his uncle.
Leng Yan was sent to his grandma’s house before he was even one year old, living with his uncles. Living under someone else’s roof wasn’t easy, but luckily with his grandma around, it wasn’t too bad.
Later, when he was three years old, his grandma passed away, and his aunt treated him poorly, often beating him and not feeding him.
His uncle also didn’t like him very much, and he lived poorly every day.
And his mom would only visit once in a long while, showing no concern even knowing he wasn’t doing well.
Until he was six years old, he not only could cook by himself but also take good care of himself, and only then his mom brought him back to raise herself.
At first, his mom would hire a nanny to take care of him, but as a child at home, the nanny also didn’t care about him. When he was seven years old, the nanny neglected his health and he nearly died of a high fever.
His mom angrily fired the nanny, and he begged not to hire another nanny, wanting to take care of himself. Now his mom wanted to get married and again wanted to send him to his uncle’s house.
He refused to go, but his mom insisted he must. After all, as a minor, how could he be without a guardian?
Coincidentally, the last time his mom came back was around the time for transferring from primary to middle school. He thought she would care about his studies, but she didn’t even know what grade he was in, just kept talking about sending him to live with his uncle.
Mom cared so little about him, treated him as nothing, so his heart was deeply hurt, leading him to imitate adults and drink, just wanting to harm himself.
However, he only drank half a cup before feeling dizzy and stopped.
If he had known that drinking would cause Xia Nuo to end up in the hospital, he wouldn’t have drunk even if it meant being beaten to death.
Xia Nuo, having learned the whole story, disliked his mom even more.
She only thought about her own future, without caring at all about Leng Yan’s feelings. What a hateful mom.
“What will you do in the future? After all, you’re still young. Are you really going to live with your uncle?” she asked him.
Leng Yan shook his head and said lightly, “I won’t go.”
“Your… dad? You can find him.”
“I don’t have a dad. My mom had me out of wedlock, and my dad died a long time ago.” Leng Yan said with no expression, genuinely having no feelings for his dad.
