On the day of departure, Xia Nuo was very excited. Thinking about the fresh and exciting journey ahead made her blood boil.
And she hadn’t considered at all whether there would be any safety concerns for two kids traveling together.
It seemed like with Leng Yan by her side, she had nothing to fear or worry about.
In fact, Leng Yan took great care of her, and only one incident occurred during the trip.
When they were in Q City, they admired the city’s European architecture during the day and ate a sumptuous seafood meal before heading to the night market in the evening.
Along the way, they ate and drank with reckless abandon, inadvertently revealing that they had money. They were two minors, alone and from out of town, perfect targets for muggers.

As they walked to a less crowded area, three thugs approached with ill intentions, surrounding the two of them.

Leng Yan was also a bit uneasy, fearing he couldn’t protect Xia Nuo well. He shielded her tightly behind him but still calmly asked them, "You want money?"
"Pretty smart, hand over all your money!"
"Okay, I’ll give it to you."
Most of the money was with Leng Yan. He pulled out a wad of cash from his pocket and, instead of handing it over immediately, rolled it into a ball and tossed it a short distance away.
"Go pick it up if you want it!"
The three thugs turned livid with anger, yet one of them reluctantly went to pick it up.
Seizing the moment when one left, Leng Yan quickly kicked one and punched another down. He didn’t linger for a fight and took the chance to grab Xia Nuo and run.
Xia Nuo wasn’t completely petrified either; as they ran, she shouted for help, making the thugs abandon their chase and leave angrily.
The two ran breathlessly to a more crowded and lively area before stopping to rest.
Xia Nuo gasped for air heavily, and now that she was more relaxed, her limbs felt weak.
She clutched Leng Yan’s arm. Seeing her fear, he hugged her tightly for comfort, providing solace for both of them.
"I’m sorry, I was too careless. I promise this won’t happen again," Leng Yan said, full of guilt.
In his embrace, Xia Nuo gradually calmed down.
She patted his back, saying, "It’s not your fault, you don’t need to blame yourself."
Moreover, technically, she’s older than him and should be responsible for his safety.
Leng Yan just held her tighter and stayed silent.
Yet, his determination to protect her grew even stronger in his heart.
Back at the hotel, Xia Nuo was still in shock. She was like a flower growing up in a greenhouse, with the most violence she had seen being school fights.
She had thought she’d never encounter a mugging in her life. Who knew she’d be so unlucky to actually face one.

Xia Nuo lay on the bed while Leng Yan slept on a makeshift bed on the floor.
She tossed and turned, unable to sleep. Eating too much today had upset her stomach.
Initially, she could endure it, but it became increasingly unbearable, forcing her to turn on the lamp and wake Leng Yan.
Seeing her face turn pale, Leng Yan was terrified and quickly called for an ambulance. At the hospital, the doctor diagnosed Xia Nuo with food poisoning, estimating she needed to stay hospitalized for two days.
Only when Xia Nuo’s condition was no longer serious and she fell into a deep sleep on the hospital bed did Leng Yan finally feel some relief.
