Fortunate to Have You This Lifetime Chapter 708

Chapter 708: Chapter 708 Mother-in-law and Daughter-in-law_1

Caitlin Carter’s eyes brimmed with redness, her lips pursed, silent.

Christopher Simonson felt irritated and said to his mother, “It’s precisely because we’re not sure if they have sufficient ability that we should go and see. Scott has suffered these past two years inside; Caitlin cannot be at peace seeing her younger brother wrongfully accused. We should try any opportunity that comes our way; it’s only human nature.”

The old lady, seeing her son defend his wife, grew even more angry and snapped, “Wrongfully accused? He committed murder and broke the law! If it weren’t for the Simonson Family hiring a lawyer and pulling strings, he’d have been executed long ago!”

“My younger brother didn’t commit murder!” Caitlin’s tears spilled out.

Raised with strict discipline, she could never talk back to her elders. She could endure anything else, but she could not stay silent about her brother’s case!

“He was framed,” Caitlin clenched her tableware so tightly that her knuckles turned white. “He’s just hot-tempered, but he has a soft heart; he couldn’t possibly have committed murder! The truth will come out one day!”

After speaking, Caitlin took a deep breath, put down her tableware, and said softly, “Dad, Mom, I’ve finished eating.”

Seeing his wife leave the table, Christopher found his own meal hard to swallow and sighed, “Mom, why can’t we just eat in peace?”

“Who’s stopping us from eating in peace? Who walked away sulking?” The old lady’s face was full of wrath. “Don’t you know all about her brother’s case? Someone saw him commit murder with their own eyes! You’re at a critical point in your career, and she wants to overturn a murder conviction!”

The old lady found it unbearable to even think about the matter, the more she thought about it, the more upset she became. She wanted to say more, but was interrupted by Old Master Simonson’s stern voice.

“Enough!” The old master’s voice wasn’t loud, but carried an authoritative weight, “Let’s say less and eat.”

Christopher ate a few bites, but the food had lost its taste. He stood up and said, “I’ve finished eating. There’s a speech tomorrow; I’m going to review the speech text.”

Old Master Simonson nodded slightly, “Get some rest early. You’ve been looking quite pale lately. The voters expect to see an ever-vigorous president. If you feel tired, consider adjusting your schedule, reduce public appearances rather than showing up looking unenergetic.”

Christopher nodded and stood up to leave.

Anxious about Caitlin, he returned to the bedroom and indeed he found Caitlin Carter sitting on the edge of the bed, sobbing softly.

“Ah…” Christopher walked over and sat beside her, “Mom’s getting old; her temper is becoming more and more contrary and perverse. I’m sorry you had to suffer.”

Caitlin shook her head and asked Christopher, “Why did you come back so soon? Did you not eat much? You shouldn’t do that, you already work hard enough every day. If you don’t eat well, how will your body hold up?”

As she spoke, she got up, “I’ll go to the kitchen and have them send a bowl of soup here for you.”

“No need,” Christopher pulled her back, speaking faintly, “I’m not hungry, just want to lie down for a while. Caitlin, could you rub my head again?”

Caitlin sat down and started massaging Christopher just as she always did. When she touched his skin, she felt it was somewhat hot.

“Do you have a fever?” Caitlin was startled, immediately grabbing an electronic thermometer from the drawer and taking his temperature.

The reading showed a mild fever.

Christopher appeared unaware that he was ill, only feeling his head was slightly heavy and lacked energy.

“It’s probably because I haven’t been resting well lately,” he said.

“Lie down and rest; I’ll go get some medicine,” Caitlin helped him to lie down, then turned to fetch some antipyretic and brought back some hot water.

Christopher took the medicine with hot water and afterward fell into a groggy sleep.

Looking at her sick husband, Caitlin felt torn. On one hand, she was distressed over her husband’s health; on the other, she hesitated… Was it right to leave her sick husband behind and go to Clearwater?
