Purple Summers didn’t want to go in.
It wasn’t because she was afraid of Nathaniel Summers; it was that every part of the room’s arrangement bore the shadow of her newlywed days, and each part felt like a silent, taunting irony.
However, what surprised Purple was that the room seemed different now.
She couldn’t pinpoint the change; in fact, the furniture was in the same place, but the atmosphere felt haunted with yin energy—she felt an inexplicable chill the moment she stepped inside.
Purple felt cold and only then realized she had already walked in.
Having entered, there was no need to back out now. Doing so would make her seem timid and spineless.
The light in the room was dim, with thick curtains drawn, completely blocking the warm sunlight outside, making the air cool as water.
A laptop was placed on the table, its screen casting a cold light around, reflecting on the wedding photo hanging on the wall where the faces of the photographed couple looked ghastly and grim.
Nathaniel Summers had apparently been dealing with company matters just moments ago. He typed expressionlessly on the keyboard and then closed the computer, turning around to pour a glass of water for Purple.
The room didn’t fall into darkness because the door remained open, and the light from the corridor outside was enough for Purple to see Nathaniel’s face clearly.
Purple took the glass, her hand gripping it until it turned slightly pale.
It was supposed to be a couple’s mug, also bought when they got married.
The water, she couldn’t drink it and silently put it back on the table.
She was here to solve a problem today, not to reminisce or to argue.
“I’m sorry for what happened to you, although I was unaware… it still relates to me, and I have to take responsibility. I know that now, no matter what I say or do, it doesn’t make up for anything, but since hypnosis can be undone, I hope you can set aside past grudges for now and cooperate with the psychiatrist for treatment,” she said earnestly.
Purple spoke very seriously.
It may sound like she was speaking from a place of comfort, but she had indeed tried her best.
Nathaniel also understood her point, and with a half-mocking, half-smiling look, he said, “So you’ve come to an agreement with Alexander Summers? Even if he killed you, you wouldn’t care?”
Purple clenched her fists.
“That’s between him and me,” Purple said, her voice stiff, “Right now we’re discussing your issue.”
“I see, you want to make amends to me, so your conscience feels a bit better, right?” Nathaniel said with a smile.
“You could see it that way. Some things, when they are wrong, they are wrong. I won’t make excuses for him. Whatever you need, I’ll do my best,” Purple said firmly.
Nathaniel seemed amused by her words, his expression one of mockery, “There is one thing, indeed, that only you can make up for.”
Purple frowned and asked, “What is it?”
“We have never made love,” Nathaniel said.
Purple’s eyes widened in shock, and she froze.
“Isn’t that right?” Nathaniel moved closer to her, smiling sardonically, “We have been married for a year, yet we have never made love. Isn’t that the greatest debt you owe me?”
Purple’s mind buzzed. She had envisioned many scenarios before coming, but she had not anticipated Nathaniel making such a demand.
“Nathaniel, I’m discussing this with you seriously, and I truly want to compensate you. Can’t you drop the jokes?” she asked.
“I am not joking,” Nathaniel said, his gaze deep and somber as it fell upon Purple’s blouse, “The most you have wronged me is by ignoring our marriage and letting other men touch you… Suzanne Saunders, you truly disgust me.”
His hand reached out, firmly grasping Purple’s chin. He said in a low voice, “Hold her tight.”
Purple’s limbs were stiff, and she felt as though she was wrapped in mud, unable to move!
She inhaled sharply, fear in her heart, as she watched Nathaniel leaning in to kiss her, her mind racing for a countermeasure!
Suddenly, a figure appeared from behind her, landing a punch on Nathaniel’s face!
