The call came from the Carter Family.
“Caitlin! Your younger brother has gone mad. He refused Mr. Rieste, insisting on having Purple Summers as his defense attorney! No matter how we try to persuade him, he won’t listen! What can we do? What can we do?!” sobbed Caitlin’s mother over the phone.
Edward Carter is an adult; he has the right to choose his own defense attorney, and his family has no say in the matter.
Thinking of Edward Carter’s petulant guilty plea the day before, his parents simply thought he was giving up on himself, deliberately choosing a young girl without hope to be his defense attorney!
Stunned, Caitlin held the phone, no longer clearly hearing what was being said on the other end, as she stared at Purple Summers and blurted out, “Why?”

Caitlin was already speaking incoherently, “My younger brother… how could he, why… why does he insist it must be you?”
“What’s wrong?” Christopher Simonson asked his wife with concern, “Who’s calling?”
“My mother,” Caitlin replied. “She said Edward insists on having Purple Summers as his defense attorney!”
“Purple?” Christopher Simonson was shocked, and he turned to look at Purple Summers, asking, “Why?”
Why must it be Purple Summers?!
Everyone was shocked, their eyes all converging on Purple Summers, who was having breakfast.

She couldn’t accept Purple Summers appearing in court!

Purple Summers sipped her oatmeal slowly, picking out the raisins with a spoon and speaking slowly, “Actually, it’s possible. I just turned eighteen last week, and Prominence Law Firm has already given me a junior lawyer recommendation letter.”
According to the relevant regulations of Huaya Country, there are at least three prerequisites for lawyer’s court appearances: being at least eighteen years of age; passing the judicial examination; presenting a practising certificate and recommendation letter from a law firm.
Of course, these are just the very very basic requirements—merely the threshold for appearing in court.
Violet Nelson turned ashen: “You can’t…”
“Of course I can,” Purple Summers interrupted her, her tone unhurried, “According to Civil Law Article 11, citizens over the age of eighteen are considered adults, with full capacity for civil conduct, and can independently engage in civil activities, being fully capable individuals. So… as long as I wish to, I certainly can defend Mr. Edward Carter in court.”
After saying this, Purple Summers smiled softly at Violet Nelson, “As for why he chose me, perhaps Mr. Edward Carter thought I was more affordable.”
