C21 – Vajra City
“Jiang Qiu certainly has an eye for talent!” Cao Rann remarked appreciatively from the side.
At first, when Jiang Qiu decided to date Tan Chong, he shared the same doubts as everyone else. He couldn’t fathom why Jiang Qiu was drawn to Tan Chong, who back then seemed weak and unremarkable, with no noteworthy background.
But now, it was clear that Jiang Qiu’s insight was incredibly astute.
No one could have imagined that Tan Chong, seemingly so average, had such depth to him.
Jiang Qiu beamed, gazing at Tan Chong with deep affection.
She also felt a wave of relief wash over her. She was thankful that Tan Chong had kept his true abilities under wraps; otherwise, he would have undoubtedly captured the hearts of numerous women in Celestial South Gathering Land, and she might not have had the chance to be with him.
Tan Chong, scratching his nose, was suddenly struck by a thought. “Captain Ming, how come there are so many zombies in Celestial South Gathering Land?” he inquired.
The fortifications of Celestial South Gathering Land were formidable, and the defenses were rigorous. It seemed implausible that zombies could have breached such a stronghold.
He was still puzzled over how Celestial South Gathering Land had fallen.
“It’s because Jin Cuoshi turned into a zombie,” Ming Dong stated gravely.
“What?” Tan Chong exclaimed in disbelief.
Jin Cuoshi was not only the leader of Celestial South Gathering Land but also a powerful Level 2 Evolver. How could someone of his caliber turn into a zombie?
Ming Dong exhaled deeply and continued, “It appears that Jin Cuoshi deliberately allowed himself to become a zombie. If he hadn’t, he would have died.”
Becoming a zombie wasn’t entirely negative. At the very least, one’s lifespan became indefinite, able to endure as long as they weren’t killed.
“But to become a zombie is to become a mindless, shambling husk, which seems more agonizing than death itself. Why would he choose such a fate?” Tan Chong struggled with the concept.
Ming Dong inhaled sharply before responding, “It’s not necessarily as you describe. There’s a small chance that a person can retain their memories and consciousness during the transformation into a zombie. However, the likelihood is exceedingly rare.”
“So Jin Cuoshi has become a zombie with intelligence?” Tan Chong’s eyelids twitched at the thought.
Once a zombie acquires intelligence, it has the potential to ascend to the status of a Corpse King. In time, it could command a horde of zombies and become humanity’s foe.
“Exactly. I realized this and immediately fled the Celestial South Gathering Land, fortunate enough to make it out alive,” Ming Dong recounted with a shudder.
“I see,” Tan Chong said, the pieces falling into place.
Jin Cuoshi was already a Level 2 Evolver before his transformation. As a zombie, his strength only increased.
With his retained intelligence post-transformation, he was an unstoppable force within the Celestial South Gathering Land.
“Captain Ming, what’s our next move?” Tan Chong inquired, after a moment to collect himself.
With the Celestial South Gathering Land overrun by Jin Cuoshi and a swarm of zombies, returning was out of the question.
Without the sanctuary of the Celestial South Gathering Land, they were left to wander. Encountering a large Zombie Group would pose a grave threat.
“We’ll head to Vajra City,” Ming Dong decided after a brief pause.
Vajra City is an immense Gathering Land, over ten times the size of Celestial South Gathering Land, boasting a population of two hundred thousand.
The city is teeming with formidable figures, and its lord, Huang Cann, is a powerful Level 3 Evolver.
Vajra City is undoubtedly the safest haven in the region. It would stand strong even against an onslaught led by a Corpse King.
“Why not consider the Blue Sea Gathering Land?” Cao Rann interjected, puzzled.
Vajra City, while secure, was farther away. The Blue Sea Gathering Land, by contrast, was much closer.
Tan Chong was familiar with the Blue Sea Gathering Land; the three individuals he had slain were from there.
