"I can give you versions of them," she cooed, "that worship you without question."
Jemil's heart slammed in his chest.
"No," he said. "They're real. They're wild. They drive me crazy. But they're mine."
He slammed his palm into the mirror floor. His sigils blazed.
"Get out of my head."
Then laughed — not cruelly. Honestly.
"Well. That was hot."
They reappeared in the courtyard. The wives lunged toward Jemil — and immediately dragged him into a group-checking, group-hugging, group-glaring pile.
Saphira: "What did she offer you?"
Yura: "Tell me everything."
Naia: "Did she kiss you?"
Flare: "If she did, I'm burning her throne."
Lyra: "I'm licking your face. You're mine again."
Lilith dusted her dress. "He passed. Admirably. I'll wait."
She turned to walk away, hips swaying like a metronome of doom.
"When you're ready, Jemil... I'll be Wife #6. You'll come to me."
She vanished in a swirl of midnight fire.
