Long Sijue quickly held her back. He furrowed his eyebrows and asked, “What are you doing?”
Even though he knew that no one could hide in those low shrubs, he still worried about her safety.
“It could be cats or dogs that are injured. I’m going to take a look.”
After Su Qianxun finished saying that, she pulled her hand out of his and ran over. She parted the grass and saw a small dog. It was lying on the ground and seemingly in anguish. Its body was tiny, but its tummy was very huge.
Long Sijue walked over as well. The small dog saw that there were people around and let out a weak bark. It appeared to be very ill.
“It looks ill. Its tummy is so big!” Su Qianxun reached out a hand and was about to touch it.
Long Sijue immediately stopped her. “You have a wound on your hand. The stray is not vaccinated. You might get an infection… Also, she is not ill. She is about to give birth.”
“Ah? Give birth?” Su Qianxun realized that he was right. Embarrassed, she let out a chuckle.
Long Sijue extended a hand and stroked the mother dog’s head first, as though he was trying to comfort her. After that, he reached over to touch her tummy.
Su Qianxun was slightly astonished by how experienced he was. If he reached for the mother dog’s tummy right away, the dog might bite him. Instead, he comforted her first, let her know that he meant no harm, before touching her tummy.
What surprised her even more was the fact that despite how dirty and scruffy this stray was, Long Sijue, a germaphobe, did not mind at all…
“She looks very weak. What do we do now?” Su Qianxun asked nervously.
“She’s going to give birth soon. Let’s take her to the vet,” Long Sijue said and stood up. He beckoned to call the bodyguard over and gave him an instruction. Soon enough, the bodyguard came back with a cardboard box that had a blanket inside it.
Long Sijue carried the mother dog in his arms and put her into the box himself.
Su Qianxun watched him handle everything as though he had done this before. She felt slightly odd. A while ago, he was strongly against her decision to keep a dog. She had to please him as hard as she could before he had reluctantly agreed to keep Long Xiaoxun.
Thinking of Long Xiaoxun, Su Qianxun’s expression darkened. She could not help but feel upset about the puppy.
A large hand that was warm and dry held her small hand. Long Sijue helped her get into the car.
“Young master…”
“Call me by my name.”
Su Qianxun hesitated for a moment.
“Ah Jue, you seem to be very good at taking care of this pregnant dog.” Su Qianxun stared at him and blinked. There was a curious look in her eyes.
“Um, I used to keep a dog. She also gave birth to some puppies,” Long Sijue replied flatly.
“You used to keep a dog? I thought you don’t like puppies.”
“It’s not that I don’t like them. I don’t dare to like them. If I can’t protect something, I don’t have the right to like it.”
Long Sijue stared at the mother dog and thought of a female dog he used to keep. Back then, he was very excited. He took good care of the mother dog every day and even helped his precious pet through labor. However, the next morning, when he woke up and hurried to see the mother dog and the newborn puppies with excitement, all of them had already become a meal.
He would never dare to forget that morning, when the dogs were missing from the doghouse, but there was a platter of fried puppies in the dining room.
