Harem Startup : The Demon Billionaire is on Vacation Chapter 28

Chapter 28 – Out of Calculation

Outside, on the candle-lit terrace, the cool breeze swept in again.

Lux exhaled slowly. Let his posture drop just enough to be real.

Naomi lifted her wine glass. Tilted it toward him with a faint smile.

"You good?" she asked softly, her tone sincere and quiet in the aftermath of beauty and danger.

Lux grinned.

"Oh Naomi," he whispered low, like a secret he didn’t mind her keeping, "I’m in my element."

The candles flickered in approval.

Then, mercifully, their food arrived.

An elegant procession—steak glazed with elderroot butter, ethereal mist curling off enchanted vegetables, a glass bowl filled with fruit petals and tempura scallops. Even the bread had infused herb dust.

"Okay," Lux said, loosening his collar. "This might be the first real vacation thing I’ve done."

Naomi laughed softly, slicing into her own dish. "You mean eating actual food?"

"Instead of negotiating a soul clause while dodging an assassination attempt?" Lux tapped his fork once on the edge of the plate. "Yes. I highly recommend this."

They ate.

The tension melted just a bit—no more eyes on them, no more seductive crossfire. Just the city lights below, the scent of grilled spice and starlit butter, and Naomi—who took her time with every bite like she actually enjoyed living.

He liked that.

He noticed that.

And that—more than anything—made him speak.

"Naomi."

She looked up, still chewing. "Mhm?"

"I need to ask you something."

She raised a brow. "This is about the wine, isn’t it?"

He gave her a look. "No. But also, yes. Next time, you’re ordering."

She smirked. "Noted. So what is it?"

Lux didn’t smile.

His voice dropped low.

"Do you want to make a contract with me?"

She blinked.

"...Contract?" she echoed, voice cautious now. "Like... a business contract?"

Lux set his glass down gently, eyes locked on hers.

"No," he said. "Power."

The air stilled again.

Naomi’s fork paused mid-air. "Define that."

He leaned forward slightly, enough for his voice to dip, but not enough to crowd her.

"I mean a pact," he said. "Not a binding. Not ownership. A mutual link. Protective. Enchanted. Between our names, our presence, our aura. So if anything or anyone touches you..."

He tapped his chest once,

"They touch me first."

Naomi stared at him, eyes narrowing. "Why?"

Lux took a slow breath. Let the words come easy.

"Because I’ve made too many agreements," he said, voice quieter now. "And there are... creatures. Demonic ones. Holy ones. Some celestial, some worse. Not fans of my current relationship with balance."

He gave a humorless smile. "Some of them want me dead. Some want my soul. Others want to prove a point that a balance never exists for light and darkness."

"And I’m the weak link?" she asked, brows furrowing.

"No," he said gently. "You’re the unclaimed one."

That made her scoff.

"Let me guess. You want to give me power because... You assume I can’t protect myself? Because I was hiding from Carson?"

Lux paused.

"...A bit."

Naomi’s brows lifted. Her jaw locked.

And then—she stood up.

Sudden. Smooth. Controlled fury wrapped in velvet and heels.

He barely had time to blink before her hand was at his neck.

Naomi Delacour. Choking. Him.

Not hard enough to cut air.

Just enough to shock.

Lux froze—not out of fear.

Out of calculation.

Because she was strong.

Not magical barrier strong. Not gym-session strong.

Grit strong.

Her grip was steady. Her eyes were burning.

"I ran from Carson," she said, her voice low and deadly, "but I was alone. Do you know how rare that is?"

Lux said nothing.

She continued.

"Most heiresses come with bodyguards, enchanted bracelets, alert wards, escape seals, death insurance."

Her hand didn’t shake.

"I came here. Alone. I slept in a hotel room with no shield bubble. I walked across town in heels and adrenaline. And not once—not once—did I let myself be followed."

Lux still didn’t move.

His heart rate kicked up—not in danger.

In surprise.

Naomi exhaled sharply. Let go of his neck like it burned her.

"Don’t mistake my escape for helplessness," she said, sitting back down. "I left because Carson cheated. Not because I couldn’t fight back."

Lux rolled his shoulders. Rubbed his neck lightly. "Duly noted."

To be honest, he was really surprised.

He had her pegged all wrong.

Naomi Delacour—he’d thought she was the soft kind of heiress. The elegant one. Pretty, polished, all vintage perfume and diplomatic smiles. A little emotionally wrecked, sure, but sweet in the kind of way him protect, not provoke.

But this?

This side of her?

The way she stood. The pressure of her grip. The fire in her voice when she said she didn’t need protection—Lux didn’t just hear it. He felt it.

It wasn’t just defiance. It was steel. Tempered. Sharpened.

And suddenly...

She wasn’t just a pretty girl with a powerful last name.

She was dangerous.

And he liked dangerous.

Naomi huffed. "Gods."

He let the silence breathe.

Then said, "For the record... impressive chokehold."

Naomi raised a brow. "That a compliment?"

"That’s me saying—if you do sign a contract with me, it’ll be equal footing."

Her eyes softened.

She looked at him.

"Why me?"

Lux looked down at his wine for a moment.

Then back up.

"Because you’re real," he said simply. "You look at this world like you see both the glitter and the blood beneath it. You know how power works, but you haven’t drowned in it."

Naomi didn’t answer right away.

Then—

"...You think a pact like that would really stop celestial forces?"

"No," Lux said. "But you will have the power to kick them."

A breath passed.

Then Naomi leaned forward.

"Tell me the terms. Slowly."

Lux grinned.

And the candles flickered again.

Wind didn’t move. Nothing physical did.

But the atmosphere shifted—like the very air understood that something old, something binding, was about to breathe.

He leaned back in his chair, relaxed and glowing with the kind of energy that made even shadows jealous.

"Fine," Lux said, his voice smooth as silk-drenched velvet. "We’ve already done most of it."

Naomi blinked slowly, skeptical. "We have?"

He nodded. "We had sex."

Naomi narrowed her eyes. "So what, this was already a contract?"

Lux’s grin sharpened.

"You only need my mark."

Her brows drew in. "Your mark? What does that mean?"

He tilted his head, letting the shadows curl across one side of his face, just enough to deepen the angle of his cheekbones, the glint in his eyes turning just barely crimson.

"It means," he said slowly, "I place a symbol on your skin. Doesn’t hurt. Won’t show up unless you call it. But it links us. You’ll be wrapped in my aura—my energy. Anyone with eyes to see will know you’re claimed. By me..."
