Chapter 188: Memory Dive

"Sit down, Mister Potter," the auror instructed after guiding him into a small room with a few chairs and a square table in the middle, with some writing utensils on top.

Harry glanced at the object that had been placed on one side. It was a stone basin with runic carvings on its surface and a metallic liquid filling the top part.

"Do you know what that is?" the auror asked.

"You want my memories," James stated.

The auror nodded. "It is customary to make a copy of the memories from the main people implicated in an event that caused someone's death. We don't have the name of this witch yet, but I have the name of one Rabastan Lestrange, who was a victim of said witch. Is that correct?"

"Why not take my memories instead?" Dumbledore suggested. "I saw most of the conflict."

The auror looked at him. "That would help, but we will still need Mister Potter's as he was the main person of interest in this. However… before we get to that." He picked up a quill and a piece of parchment. "I will need the full statement about what happened."

"I see," James said quietly. "All I know from that witch is that she owns a shop in one corner of Hogsmeade. I previously met her when I visited her antique shop and bought some books."

"A shop owner." The auror glanced at Dumbledore. The old wizard had also commented the same. "Yes, we will look into that to find out who this witch was."

"She was very old, probably several centuries, and likely from another country. I noticed a light French accent coming through as she spoke. I would look into any Dark Lords that were around during the seventeenth century or something around that era."

"Dark Lord?" Dumbledore became startled.

"Seventeenth century?… how much do you think wizards and witches usually live?" The auror's eyes were filled with doubt.

"The average one lives around one hundred and twenty. But this was not your average witch. And there are many ways for magical folk to extend one's life," James pointed out.

"Not by legal ways, there are not," the auror responded.

"Yes, well… I don't think she cared about legality." James wanted to laugh at this man's naivety.

'No wonder Voldemort almost took over the country in a few years,' he thought.

"Okay, let's move on," the auror said after writing something on the parchment. "Why did she target you?"

"She thought I had something that belonged to her," James said.

"A piece of leather."

The auror raised an eyebrow. "She tried to kill you for a piece of leather?…"

"I don't think that woman was in her right state of mind," James commented. "She was extremely dangerous nonetheless."

"A piece of leather…" the auror muttered as he wrote. "And then, the two of you fought and she ended up dying. It looked like you used a potent fire spell to do it."

"Technically, that's not a magical spell. I manifested something that already existed somewhere else. An alchemy flame," James explained.

The auror glanced at Dumbledore. "I'm afraid I don't know much about alchemy."

"Alchemy flames are used mainly to aid in our craft. Certain creations take very specific types of flames. It takes a lot of control over one's magic to produce one of these flames, and the one that Mister Potter produced was one of the highest caliber. I myself can use a few, but nothing as potent as that one…" There was a tone of admiration in Dumbledore's voice as he spoke.

The auror remained silent for a moment, thinking about what the Headmaster was saying. This was one of the most renowned wizards in the entire world, and his achievements in alchemy were known by everyone. But he was now telling him that this boy, who was only fifteen years old, had accomplished something that he, Albus Dumbledore, could not replicate.

After looking down at what he was writing, the auror decided to stop here. "I believe it would be better if I can take a look at those memories first." He was having a hard time believing what these two were saying.

Before he could finish, Harry stood up and walked up to the Pensieve. He placed his wand against his temple and pulled a memory about the fight out.

He did make sure to tamper with it slightly to cover the part where he talked about the divine leather or where he spoke his previous name and title.

The silvery thread fell upon the liquid and began to mix with it.

"Ehm… Mister Potter." Dumbledore spoke with hesitation. "Do you mind if I also…"

'Always wants to know everything.' James recalled this about the old wizard.

"Of course, you can watch them too."

"Thank you." Dumbledore looked very happy as he stood up and, along with the auror, sank his face into the stone basin.

James remained seated and waited patiently.

Two minutes later, the auror pulled his face out of the basin. He was gasping for air and looking incredibly pale before glancing towards James.

"Y-You… you… what was that?!" he shouted.

"Care to be more specific?" James had honestly no idea what had gotten this man so spooked.

"That witch! What was it? She punched a dragon and sent it flying. She could control the earth and her skin had green scales." The auror was speaking very fast, making it difficult for James to understand everything he was saying.

"And what's with the dragon?! Where did it come from? It was small, then big… and that metallic thing that turned into spikes. And that white fire… I… I have never seen anything before!"

James didn't know what to say. The man was too excited. "Why don't we wait for the Headmaster to be done. I'm sure he can help wit—"

At that moment, Dumbledore pulled his face out of the basin. And he looked as pale as the auror.

"That was the Primordial Argent Flame?!"
