Chapter 209: Taking Them Down

James forced himself into the mind of the Death Eater while this one futilely tried to resist the invasion.

The young man tried to scream but had already been silenced by James and couldn't mutter a sound.

"There are six more on the upper floors. We have to hurry."

"Did you learn that at school?" Fleamont didn't look too pleased at seeing his son breaking so many laws in the last few minutes.

"This is not how we do things at the Ministry, James."

"And that may work well during peacetime." James aimed his wand at the Death Eater. "We are at war now."

"James, stop." Fleamont walked up to him, seeing what he was about to do. "Leave this one for the Aurors. He is no longer a threat."

James shook his head and sighed. "Fine, but that kind of attitude will come with a price." He knew better than his father that arresting these individuals was a lost cause. Thᴇ link to the origɪn of this information rᴇsts ɪn n0velfire.net

The Ministry was largely under the control of Voldemort and the dark noble faction of Magical Britain. These young men who joined the Dark Lord's side all belonged to those families or at least had plenty of connections inside.

They would never see the interior of a cell, even if they were arrested.

James could already imagine that this one would be let go before dawn after the Aurors took him.

"James, my family…did you see anything about them?" Bella asked while looking extremely worried.

"I only saw this one shoot a curse at your uncle Orion. Your aunt was also there but managed to escape. I didn't see the other members of your house. They must be on the last floors. Perhaps they've managed to hold them off for now," James responded.

"Let's hurry, please." Bella begged.

James nodded and took off while she and his father followed him. Every second they wasted could be another member of Bella's family dying.

He perked his ears, trying to pick up any sounds of people as they moved out.

It was important that they didn't miss any Death Eaters on the floors they were leaving behind, otherwise they could be attacked from below and above at the same time.

So on every floor, James made sure to stop for a moment and listen before continuing.

The Black Manor had five floors in total and James was now reaching the fourth one.

The memories he stole from the fallen magical terrorist informed him that six more individuals should be present at the property, and all of them were much more experienced wizards than the first two he encountered.

James's eyes became sharp as he spotted a figure right as he walked up to the fourth floor.

His feet were still enchanted to avoid producing any sound, so he used an invisibility charm to cover himself as he rushed for his target.

'There is one behind.' He heard the sound of steps getting closer. 'No…there are two, and one at the front.'

His target was a tall individual who seemed to be distracted while trying to open a door in front of him, cursing after failing to break the lock.

"Hey! Who goes there?!"

Voices came from behind James. The other two Death Eaters had already spotted his father and Bella, who were not careful enough to cover their presence.

The one trying to open the door suddenly stopped after hearing his companions' yells and turned to look.

James had to increase his pace and took off running.

The silencing charm on his shoes was not able to stop the creaking noise of the wooden floor, now that he was stepping with too much force.

This alerted his target to another presence, one closer to him, and he got on guard.

However, his reaction was way too slow, as James was already on him.

His wand was swiftly transfigured into a short blade, which he used to stab the neck of the Death Eater.

This one produced some choking sounds and brought his hands to cover the wound while stumbling backwards.

James finished him off by returning his wand to normal and casting a piercing hex aimed at the man's head, killing him instantly.

His attention was promptly turned to the other two, who already had their focus on his father and Bella.

James was not too concerned. The protection he had left with them would be enough to take care of the issue.

From what he had seen, none of these Death Eaters were particularly strong or well-trained.

"Leave this to me!" Fleamont stood in front of Bella in a protective manner while aiming his wand at one of the Death Eaters. "Stupefy!"

His opponent responded by shielding himself with a Protego while returning fire. "Avada Kedav—!"

Tertivor reacted instantly to the aggression. A thin spike formed from its spot on Fleamont's arm and shot out like a bullet at the Death Eater.

But instead of piercing his body, at the last moment Tertivor twisted itself, changing slightly into something sharper, and snapped like a whip across the man's neck, separating his head from his shoulders.

"Whoa! I didn't mean to do that." Fleamont exclaimed.

The last Death Eater was not doing much better, as Primum had also reacted to protect Bella and spat some nasty poison on him.

"Ahhh!" The Death Eater screamed as he felt an excruciating pain all over his chest.

Primum's poison was extremely corrosive and was eating away at his black cloak as well as his flesh.

Bella did not waste the opportunity and fired her own curse aimed at the same target, who was now too distracted to fight back.

She used the last spell that James taught her. It was an improved version of the bone-breaker hex, as this one targeted several parts of the body.

Bella's curse hit its intended target, and the next moment, they heard a loud, resounding crack as the man's bones broke apart.

The Death Eater had both his legs and arms snapped and fell down while still screaming in agony.

Fleamont hurried to shoot a petrifying charm to silence him, but it was too late, as the remaining three had already heard them for sure.

James was about to walk off when he saw the door next to him open.

"James?!" From inside the room, Andromeda Black poked her head out and was clearly shocked to see him.
