Heart Over Sword Chapter 244

Evanna and Arawn grinned at each other, feeling desire and warmth blossoming between them as they shared a look before Evanna turned away from him. As she sat on the edge of the bed Ronan was lying on, Ger opened the door, holding two plants.

"Did you need any more? There is at least one in every room," he said, placing them on the bedside table.

"I think this will be enough," Evanna answered as she reached for one of the potted plants. "I’m not sure how to do this.."

"Think about what you want to do. Call to your normal powers and focus on ’Roach’s’ wounds," Arawn suggested, his instruction and tone calm.

"Okay.." Evanna placed her hand over the bandaged area of Ronan’s neck.

She didn’t want to remove them in case these powers didn’t work, and the pressure was removed from the wound. With her other hand, she held onto the small plant and focused on Ronan’s neck. A rush of power enveloped Evanna, and she felt warmth shimmer across her hands, going from her right hand along her arm and shoulders and down to her left hand. The hand pressed against Ronan’s wound.

"Did it work?" Axel asked in wonder. Evanna followed where he was looking and saw the plant that had once been green and flourishing had shrivelled up, the colour gone and the stem now brown and crusted.

Evanna felt bad about killing a plant, but if it meant healing Ronan, it was worth it. If the plant looked like that, then that meant.. Hope blossomed in her chest.

Unwrapping the dressing, Evanna blinked profusely at what she could see. Ronan’s skin was healed. There was a slight scar like the wound was there from years ago not mere minutes.

There was an audible gasp from behind her, and she knew already who it was. Evanna looked at Ger’s and Axel’s faces; they were in shock and awe. Though they quickly recovered their expressions.

"Amazing.." Axel murmured.

"What about his leg?" Ger asked as he started unwrapping Ronan’s calf.

"Why.. is everyone so loud?" Ronan groaned, frowning, his eyes still shut. He rested his arm over his eyes.

"Because you’ve been healed!" Axel exclaimed, unable to hold back from telling Ronan. He couldn’t believe what he was seeing. It was miraculous.

To see the sweet yet deadly Evanna able to heal another person.

All at the cost of taking life away from a plant.

Axel whistled, his eyes resting on the side of Ronan’s leg. It wasn’t fully healed, but it was almost there. "Hold on." Evanna closed her eyes, reaching for his leg and the other plant.

"Are you sure?" Arawn asked quietly. "That was a lot of power used-"

"I can just rest it off after," Evanna murmured, concentration furrowing her brows together.

Arawn backed up, disapproval on his features, but he did not say anything. Axel watched the prince whilst Evanna did her magic. Arawn focused on her than what was happening to Ronan’s leg. He really did seem to care about her.

That or it was because he didn’t care about Ronan. Which was also highly likely.

This time they watched as Ronan’s skin gradually healed, and any scarring he had on his neck was back to brand new skin. Ronan’s arm fell back, and he glanced at his leg.

"It doesn’t hurt.." He looked at Evanna in wonder. "It doesn’t hurt. How.."

Ronan’s gaze then followed the others in the room before landing on the princess again. She looked suddenly paler and held a hand to her forehead.

"We need to protect her at all costs. If anyone finds out.." Ronan trailed off, his voice now hardened.

It incited even more loyalty to Evanna; how there was any more room left, Axel did not know, but the need to protect her was much more vital now. Ronan was right. If others learn about these powers, they will use her for their own gain.

Evanna stood, but her knees bucked beneath her. Arawn was there before she hit the ground, sliding his arm under her knees and back, carrying her bridal style.

"Is she ok?" Axel asked, taking a few steps before Arawn’s gaze found his.

"She needs rest. I do hope you all know that if word gets out, I will end your miserable lives. Whether it was your fault or not." With a chilling smile, Arawn left the room with an unconscious Evanna.

The prince’s behaviour and the way he spoke was quite unnerving, especially when he seemed to show such a tender side to only Evanna. That must be love, though. It worked in strange ways.

They would never speak another word about Evanna’s powers, though Axel wasn’t sure about Fiza. He wasn’t the only one thinking that as everyone glanced at her. Feeling the weight of everyone’s stares, the night fae rolled her eyes.

"I see I’m not quite welcome here. Maybe your prince needs my help." Fiza sauntered off, closing the door behind her once she left. The group relaxed a little now that the spymaster was gone.

"Couldn’t Evanna’s powers help Lady Loraven?" Axel asked quietly when the silence grew too much.

Ger sighed, scratching at the small beard on his sharp jawline. His hair and facial hair had grown long since leaving the palace. But it always did when they ventured far until they’d find themselves in civilisation again, like now, where he would rid himself of the growth on his jaw.

"Evanna wouldn’t continue on this journey if her powers could help Lady Loraven. If it is a disease, then it is possible. She can only heal so far until it starts to spread again," said Ger thoughtfully.

Axel released a long breath, feeling an overbearing weight on his shoulders. It had been a few months already. It wouldn’t have felt so long if Cilv didn’t steal the gem.

"Can the gem really heal Lady Loraven, then?" Ronan asked what was on Axel’s mind. "Would it not also heal to a certain extent?"

"You followed your princess into Flori lands to steal a gem you never believed in?" Garrett asked, his voice deep and commanding their attention. "Are you all well?"

Ronan blinked back at the elf’s question. It wasn’t mocking, but it really should be because Garrett was serious. "We took a chance on something in our lands that has been written as nothing more than a child’s tale," he said whilst stroking the side of his neck.

Ronan couldn’t get over how smooth it was. He’d always had beautiful skin, but he was relieved not to have a scar there now. As a man, he didn’t care about scarring, they held stories, but in this case, it was far from anything exciting. He almost got eaten by a white sabre. It was embarrassing.

"The gem does work. How can you not believe it after seeing such miraculous magic before you?" Garrett asked, his sensible questions silencing them all.
