Hellbound With The Vampire King Chapter 55

Chapter 55: The king’s duty(1)

"Hmm... by the way wh-where is Eiravyn?"

"Your Majesty is in his study on the third floor." The butler responded in a firm voice. "Do you want me to inform him that you’re asking of him?" The man asked irritated.

"Oh, no need. I would not want to disturb him." Serena shook her head, not knowing why she was asking in the first place. The feeling of being excited had taken over her unknowingly and she had blurted out the first thing that came to her mind. She wondered if she was allowed to tour the royal house. But she quickly brushed the thoughts out of her mind the moment it came. Like a flicker of shame.

"Then, I would like to take my leave." The butler said, making her snap her head in his direction.

"Ah, ah, yes... yes."

Serena answered in a slightly overwhelmed voice. With that, the butler left the bedchamber in a hurry.

’Let me call Kathy.’ She said to herself, she reached for her bag and grabbed her phone to call her best friend and update her.

Serena dialed her number, feeling excited to give her friend the full gist of her travels and experience. However, the moment she turned on the phone, there was no signal, Serena looked at her phone. What was happening? She checked her phone network details and saw that the network was totally down, she started walking around the room, with her phone raised in the air, hoping to catch a network but it was the same results.

"Ughhh..." Serena groaned, feeling frustrated. Why was she not getting any network signal?

...

In the King’s study, on the third floor...

The study room of the king of Darkshade kingdom was a humongous, and lavish partitioned chamber with a long mahogany ornate desk and chairs, both made of sturdy polished mahogany wood, near the windows, while there was a smaller desk on the other side near the shelves where the king’s right-hand took care of less important work for the king.

The designs and interior were slightly minimal compared to the other extravagant rooms in the the royal house, but there was a fireplace at one corner of the room. A huge shelf with tall floor to ceilings bookshelves covered one side of the room, each shelves were filled with a number of precious books and documents from all over the continents, along with records of the kingdom’s trade and accomplishments. The bookshelves looked quite similar to what the queen’s chamber study room looked like. In the center of the study, there was a set of cushioned chairs, a couch, and a nicely carved center table made of sleek glass, meant for entertaining guests.

The wide glass windows were positioned to face east, with the curtains tied back allowing natural light to brighten up the study room during the day, and one could see the beautiful view of a tall tower in the side of the royal house and also distant majestic mountains and the markets outside when you look further down from the window.

When Eiravyn entered his study, he saw three additional tables placed near his working desk where Celrean had already arranged tall piles of paperwork for him meant to be personally read and approved by the king. Eiravyn stopped at the doorpost of his study room as he stared at the pile of work waiting for his signature, his earlier plan to quickly finish his work, so he could go back to his mate who he left alone her chamber postponed by the work in front of him.

After staring at the stack upon stack of files and documents, Eiravyn turned to look at his right-hand man.

Caspian merely shrugged as he felt his king gaze on him, "Don’t look at me. I’m as astounded as you are. I think you should face your military general, that cold blooded man." Caspian cursed under his breath before muttering to himself, ’what the hell was he doing when they were away?’ If he didn’t know better he would have thought he was just playing around, but knowing him, that was out of the question.

This was the same sight that graced Caspian view when he came to the study as soon as he was back.

"Would you like me to call him here, so you can say that in front of him?" Eiravyn asked, a look of interest flash in his eyes, before it disappeared almost immediately like it was just a mere illusion.

"Hehehe, My King, I don’t think that would be necessary."Caspian quickly denied the proposal

, he was not ready for cold bickering with the indifferent knight that might eventually lead to an intense sword fight.

Caspian then turned serious, "It seems the ministers had so much to say when we were away." Caspian said from where he was seated.

Eiravyn hummed, as he made his way to his designated chair, when he sat down Eiravyn went through the documents on his desk one by one, his actions smooth and fluid as he signed and tossed them aside after just one glance, ignoring the ones that held no importance to his kingdom. He already expected to be flooded with work when he came back because there was only little his military general could do.

Usually, he preferred to have his files sent via email. Eiravyn signed the documents that needed his signature as Caspian filled him on few things that recently happened in the capital.

One thing about Caspian was that he had his own unique way of gathering information, you could say that’s his area of expertise because of how well he does it.

"The ministers are at it again. They are unsatisfied at the sudden increase of tax for high-ranking ministers while the commoners pay none. They had been bombarding Celrean about these issues for the last few weeks claiming that it’s unjust. They want the commoners to pay the exact same tax they pay - they say that’ll only make it right."

"Hmm," was all Eiravyn said in response as he continued to look through the documents while tossing them to one side.

"Lord Chamberlain was seen having a meeting with the council elders;through the spy I’d placed in their midst, they confirmed that he is in talks with them to convince them. They will join hands with him to make his daughter your queen."

"When is the next court meeting with the council of elders." Eiravyn suddenly asked, ignoring what Caspian just told him.

"That should be..." Caspian flicked through one file close to him to check the next council meeting date, "it’s in two days from now." Caspian finally said.

"Shift the date to tomorrow afternoon."
