Hero or Villain, Both Chapter 63

Once those women disappeared, there was no one else that dared to cause any more trouble.

The way that they looked at us made it clear that they had an idea of what happened, even if they didn’t actually see what happened.

Since they knew that these were the consequences, there wasn’t anyone that actually dared to cause trouble with us anymore.

And two days later, we arrived at the nearest town.

When we arrived, the guards were completely caught off guard by our appearances. But they didn’t waste any time in arranging people to take care of the ones that were seriously injured.

"You’ll have to come with us for a bit. We’ll need to ask everyone about what happened." The guards said with serious looks on their faces.

The two high elves seemed like they were worried, but I just patted them on the shoulder to calm them down before saying to the guards, "It’s fine, we’ll cooperate."

The guards gave appreciative nods before taking us into custody.

Though it wasn’t as if we were being treated as criminals.

Doctors were called and food and water were brought to us.

The two high elf girls couldn’t resist since we had been surviving on rations during this period of time. When fresh food was placed in front of them, they really couldn’t stop their stomachs from growling.

I just gave them a nod to show them that it was fine to eat before they started devouring the food that had been brought for us.

The guard that had brought it seemed like he couldn’t help revealing a smile.

It was almost as if he was the chef that had cooked this and he was happy to see people enjoying his food.

During this time, I had a talk with the guard that was sent to question us.

We had a conversation about what happened and the only detail that I left out was when the daughter of the caravan’s leader attacked us with her group. The rest, I laid out in full for the guard.

When it was over, the guard looked at me with a sympathetic look before saying, "It must have been hard on you. You really were unlucky to get caught up in something ."

"Well, I’m used to it since I’ve traveled all over the place. Sometimes you just get unlucky." I said in a non-chalant voice, as if I was some kind of veteran when it came to matters .

The guard gave a nod of agreement before standing up with the paper that he had written his report on.

Once he reached the door, he turned back to say, "Just rest up here for a bit, I’ll take care of some paperwork. Once everything’s filed, we’ll get you on your way."

Then after he went out, I heard him say, "Get them some more food and water, they’ve been through an ordeal."

I couldn’t help shaking my head with a faint smile when I heard this.

After all, I could see that all of the food had already been devoured by the two high elf girls. With their physique, it really didn’t seem like they would be able to finish off all that food, but they had done it.

At the same time, it seemed like they were still hungry.

Seeing me look at them , the two high elf girls had awkward looks on their faces before they were about to give an explanation.

But before they could, I just waved my hand and said, "It’s alright, they’ll be bringing more food soon. Not to mention, I’m sure that you’re hungry and tired after what happened. Anyone in your situation would have done the same."

The two of them gave slight nods, but there were embarrassed looks on their faces as they turned away from me. It was as if they were too embarrassed to look me in the eyes after eating everything like that.

It didn’t take long before more food was brought in by the same guard as before.

It seemed like he was really happy to see how hungry these two high elves were.

But then again, would anyone really be unhappy seeing beautiful girls enjoy the food that they made?

After a while, the guard that had left previously came back.

Only this time, there was an unhappy look on his face.

"Is something wrong?" I couldn’t help asking when I saw him .

When the guard heard this, his expression changed slightly before a trace of awkwardness appeared on his face.

Then in an awkward voice, "It’s not that something is wrong, it’s just the testimony that some of those people gave..."

The way that his voice trailed off really made it seem like there was something wrong.

When the two high elf girls heard this, they couldn’t help revealing worried looks.

Seeing that he had made them worry , the guard quickly said, "It’s not that there’s something wrong with your testimony." After an awkward pause, he said, "It’s just that those people are simply too shameless."

I couldn’t help raising a brow when I heard the guard say this.

The guard slowly explained, "They were accusing you of trying to steal their food and water, accusing you of things like not helping them fight the bandits when they attacked, they even accused you of killing the leader of the caravan. I’ve really never seen such shameless people."

I had to admit that I was a bit surprised.

It wasn’t because of these accusations that I was surprised.

It was that the guard didn’t seem to believe them at all.

We were high elves while they were humans like the guards, so one would think that they would believe them more than us. Only it didn’t seem like there was any racism in this world.

Was it because it was a game world?

"You don’t have to worry about anything, we know when people are lying. That’s just a part of our jobs." The guard said while slapping his chest.

Then he went into a long explanation of how they figured this out.

First it was that those people had wounds that were far fresher than the ones that they should have received from when the bandits attacked. These kinds of wounds were the kind that were caused by weapons rather than natural causes.

It was clear that they had fought with each other for resources on the trek to town.

Second, it was the fact that there wasn’t a single arrow wound on them.

If I had really attacked them as they claimed, they would have suffered wounds caused by arrows.

The doctors would have been able to easily see these wounds when they were patching them up, so they knew that they were lying about this.

This was also the main reason why I had never actually shot an arrow at any of them.

Well, other than the ones that I killed, but no one could prove anything there.

There were other reasons, but they were minor compared to these ones.

When the guard was done, he slapped his chest again and said, "Don’t worry, we won’t ever blame innocent people."

I had to admit that I couldn’t help feeling like giving him a thumbs up when I saw him .
