Edward Stephens was momentarily stunned. He looked up at her, his gaze instantly becoming complex.
After a moment, he finally lowered his head and smiled.
Daisy Ginger tilted her head, her gaze falling on the man’s smiling face. Seeing his inexplicable smile, she raised an eyebrow.
Edward finished smiling but didn’t speak further.
He held Daisy’s hand and turned his head slightly, looking out the window.
The colorful neon lights fell on his sharply contoured face, his deep features cast in deep and shallow shadows, his visage obscured by the various dark emotions enshrouded in the mysterious interplay of light and shadow.

Upon hearing it was time for a medical check-up, Daisy was not too willing, but she was still taken inside under the nurse’s reassurance to undergo a heap of miscellaneous tests.
After a series of examinations, more than an hour had passed. When the final ultrasound was over, Daisy was nearly starving.
Supported as she walked out, the man who had been waiting at the door immediately came over and handed her the warm water he was holding.
Daisy didn’t stand on ceremony with him, tilting her head back to take a sip of water to soothe her throat, then said to Edward Stephens, "Enough, I’m not doing any more. I said I’m fine! It’s just a fall, what serious matter could it be? It’s retrieving my phone that’s important!"
Seeing how nervous he had been along the way, she reluctantly cooperated with him for the check-up; after all, she had a heart, and even if she was dissatisfied with Edward Stephens, seeing him look so pale for her sake, she couldn’t bring herself to show him a bad face.

Daisy glanced at her, pressed her lips together, feeling embarrassed about losing face just now, and turned away without speaking further.
The man had a good temper; even when she lost her temper, he didn’t react, just leading her to sit down on a nearby bench, smoothing her hair back off her face.
"Don’t be angry, I was overthinking it, I was just worried about you," he said gently to her, "Sit here for a bit; I’ll go to the doctor’s office and check for you. If there’s really nothing wrong, we’ll go eat."
"..." Daisy looked at his calm and accommodating demeanor, bit her lip slightly, feeling somewhat guilty.
After all, he genuinely cared for her. The way he had held her hand, his face pale earlier, he truly had been frightened, and she felt it wasn’t right to vent over such a small matter.
It’s just that for some reason, her emotions had been fluctuating a lot lately; she felt tired and sleepy, easily hungry, and altogether lethargic.
She felt something off about herself.

Edward gently kissed her face and then softly instructed her to stay put and not wander off. Then he followed the nurse to the doctor’s office.
Daisy watched his tall figure gradually disappear around the corner before retrieving her gaze, letting out a soft sigh.
He must be very busy.
Much busier than she imagined.
Several times, in the middle of the night, a call would come, and he’d have to get up and leave immediately.
But every evening, he would come by on time to take her home.
Daisy leaned against the wall, tilting her head back to gaze at the void, feeling quite complex inside, exhaling softly.
