Horrific Shorts: Zombie Edition Chapter 112

In a world long forgotten by time, where the land was dominated by towering cliffs and endless deserts, two figures huddled together in a narrow crevice of rock. Their breath was ragged, their bodies covered in dust and sweat.

These were the last survivors of a tribe once known as the Elders of the Wind, a people who had roamed the land for generations, masters of survival in the harshest of environments.

Their names were Kael and Lira. Kael, a seasoned warrior with scars that told stories of countless battles, held his spear tightly, his eyes fixed on the beast that prowled above them. Lira, younger and more agile, clutched a sharp stone, her heart pounding in her chest as she pressed closer to Kael.

The creature that hunted them was no ordinary predator; it was a titan of ancient nightmares—a colossal theropod with scales like armor and teeth that could crush bone with a single bite.

The creature, a relic of a prehistoric era, had been awakened by the recent tremors that shook the land. It had emerged from the depths of the earth, hungry and enraged, its instincts driving it to hunt anything that moved. And now, it had cornered its prey.

Kael knew that their chances of survival were slim. The beast was too large, too powerful. But he had faced death before, and he was not one to give in easily. "We must be silent," he whispered to Lira, his voice barely audible over the sound of the creature's heavy breathing above them. "It's hunting us by sound. If we stay still, we might have a chance."

Lira nodded, swallowing her fear. She had always admired Kael's courage, but now, she saw the weariness in his eyes. They had been running for days, and their strength was nearly gone. She knew that if they didn't make a move soon, the beast would find them, and there would be no escape.

Suddenly, the ground beneath them trembled as the creature shifted its massive weight. Rocks tumbled from the ledge above, narrowly missing their heads. Kael tightened his grip on his spear, his mind racing for a plan. But before he could act, Lira sprang forward, her sharp stone in hand.

"Lira, no!" Kael shouted, but it was too late. Lira had made her decision. She would distract the beast, give Kael a chance to escape. She darted out from their hiding place, hurling the stone with all her strength at the creature's head.

The stone struck the beast's snout, and for a moment, it recoiled in surprise. But then, its eyes locked onto Lira, and with a roar that shook the heavens, it lunged.

Kael watched in horror as Lira was snatched up by the creature's massive jaws. Her scream echoed across the cliffs as the beast crushed her body, her sacrifice buying him only a few precious seconds. Without thinking, Kael leaped from the crevice, his spear raised high.

He charged at the beast, his fury giving him strength. With a primal cry, he plunged the spear into the creature's exposed eye. The beast roared in pain, thrashing its head violently. But Kael held on, driving the spear deeper until he felt the resistance give way.

The creature stumbled, its remaining eye rolling back as it let out one final, guttural roar. Then, with a tremendous crash, it collapsed to the ground, its massive body shuddering before going still.

Kael fell to his knees beside the fallen beast, his breath coming in ragged gasps. Lira's broken body lay nearby, her sacrifice etched into the earth. He reached out, closing her lifeless eyes, a single tear tracing the dirt on his cheek.

The sun dipped below the horizon, casting long shadows over the land. Kael knew that this was not the end. The land was full of dangers, and he was now truly alone. But Lira's bravery had given him something to fight for—a reason to keep moving forward in this world of endless peril.

With a heavy heart, Kael rose, gripping his bloodied spear. The last hunt was over, but the journey for survival had only just begun.
