Damien Rook stood before the towering gates of the Iron Fortress, its rusted walls stretching high into the darkening sky. The fortress had once been a prison for the world's most dangerous criminals, but after the outbreak, it became something much worse. Rumors whispered of a warlord who had taken control, using the fortress as a base to command his army of the undead.
This warlord was no ordinary man—he was a Revenant General, a lieutenant of the Zombie King himself.
The gates groaned open slowly as Damien and Lena approached, their weapons ready. A thick cloud of ash and dust hung in the air, making it hard to see beyond a few feet. Lena glanced at Damien, her face tense. "You sure this is the place?"
"It has to be," Damien muttered, tightening his grip on his revolver. "The Revenant General is here. If we take him down, we'll cut off a major force of the King's army."
They slipped through the gates, entering the fortress's bleak courtyard. Once, the place must have held hundreds of prisoners, but now it was a graveyard of broken bodies and shattered bones. The air was thick with decay, and the moaning of distant zombies echoed from deep within the walls.
As they moved deeper into the fortress, Damien noticed the faint glimmer of torches ahead. He signaled for Lena to follow as they approached a narrow passage. From the shadows emerged a hulking figure clad in rusted armor—his skin pale, his eyes glowing with the unnatural light of the undead.
The Revenant General.
"Humans dare to enter my domain?" The General's voice was a deep, echoing growl, his gaze locking on Damien. "You think you can stop what's already begun?"
Damien didn't answer. He lifted his gun and fired, the bullet striking the General in the chest. The impact barely phased him. With a roar, the Revenant lunged forward, his massive blade cutting through the air.
Lena ducked under the swing, slashing at his legs with her knife, but the General's armor was thick, deflecting the blow. Damien circled to the side, looking for an opening, but the General moved with surprising speed for someone his size. He swung again, forcing Damien back toward a wall.
"Bullets won't stop him," Lena shouted, her voice strained. "We need to hit him where it hurts."
Damien's eyes darted across the courtyard, searching for anything they could use. Then he saw it—an old iron chain, connected to a massive gate above them. If they could drop the gate, it might be enough to crush the General.
"Lena, get to the chain," Damien yelled, dodging another strike.
Lena nodded and sprinted toward the gate mechanism while Damien kept the General occupied, firing rounds into his exposed joints. The General roared in fury, closing in on Damien with each swing of his blade.
Finally, Lena yanked the chain. The massive gate came crashing down with a deafening roar, slamming into the General and pinning him to the ground. His eyes flickered once, then went dark.
Damien exhaled, wiping sweat from his brow. "One more down," he muttered. "But the King's still out there."
