Dawn's first light bathed the camp, pulling Damien and the small group of survivors from a restless sleep. As the mist cleared, the silhouettes of an abandoned military outpost rose ahead, draped in silence and decay. Its towering gates were eerily still, marked with the signs of long-lost battles and twisted, creeping vines. Damien glanced over at Mira and their new ally, Corin, the young man eager for vengeance.
"This place once held strong against the dead," Corin said, gripping his blade tightly. "Now, it's a graveyard."
They moved cautiously through the outpost, their footsteps echoing in the hollow corridors. Shadows played tricks on their vision, and the air hung thick with an unsettling energy. Inside, rusted weapons and skeletal remains told the story of a last stand that had failed.
Suddenly, a faint sound broke the silence—a low, guttural growl. Mira's eyes widened, and Damien motioned for everyone to ready themselves. From the shadows, the undead emerged—soldiers long since fallen, their military gear worn and corroded. Their hollow eyes glowed faintly with unnatural life as they moved, coordinated and determined.
"We're not alone," Damien muttered, raising his weapon.

"Fall back!" Damien called, leading them deeper into the outpost, searching for a defensible position. They ducked into an armory, barricading the door as the undead soldiers pounded against it. The small room held a few useful weapons, relics of a time before the apocalypse, and Corin grabbed a machete while Mira pocketed a handful of grenades.
"We can't hold out long here," Mira whispered, her face pale. "They're relentless."
Damien's mind raced, realizing they'd need a new plan. "The only way out is through. We'll fight our way to the command center. If the generators still work, we could buy some time by lighting up the place and drawing them away."
They bolted from the armory, clashing with the undead soldiers in a brutal melee. Blood and dust filled the air as they fought, adrenaline sharpening every movement. Corin fought beside Damien with fierce determination, while Mira's grenades exploded through the dark, clearing paths as they pushed toward the heart of the outpost.
Finally, they reached the command center, slamming the doors shut behind them. Damien found the generator switch and yanked it hard. With a sputter and hum, lights flickered on throughout the base, casting a harsh glow that seemed to repel the undead soldiers momentarily.
"It won't last," Mira warned, eyeing the frenzied creatures outside.
"Then we'll make the most of it," Damien replied. Together, they prepared for a final stand, a grim resolve shared among them. They had come too far to be overrun now.
