The spiral staircase had led the team to a chamber of ancient grandeur. The moment they stepped through the colossal door, a wave of cold air swept over them. The vast hall they entered was dimly lit by beams of light filtering through jagged cracks in the ceiling. Dust motes swirled in the air, and the distant sound of dripping water echoed, faint but persistent.
The centerpiece of the chamber was a twisted column of stone that extended upward, spiraling into an unseen destination. It was flanked by a crumbling archway that seemed to lead deeper into the labyrinth. The room was a blend of beauty and decay, with intricately carved walls that hinted at a long-lost civilization.
"Looks like someone built this place to hide something important," Shadow remarked, her eyes scanning the room for threats.
"Or to keep something in," Ghost muttered, his NVGs still active as he swept the shadows.
Rook stepped forward, his boots crunching softly against the debris-covered floor. "Eyes sharp. This place is too quiet."
As if in response to his words, the ground beneath them trembled. A series of runes etched into the walls began to glow faintly, their light growing stronger with each passing second.
"What now?" Bulwark grumbled, tightening his grip on his weapon.
Before anyone could answer, the runes projected shimmering pathways across the chamber, each leading in a different direction. The glowing lines twisted and converged, creating an intricate map that hung in the air like a hologram.
"Looks like a puzzle," Shadow said, studying the map.
"More like a trap," Viper countered, her knives still in hand. "These places always have traps."
Rook motioned for silence. "Ghost, can you map this out?"
Ghost nodded, his HUD scanning the projection. "It's a maze. Most paths loop back to where we are or lead to dead ends. But there's one... here." He pointed to a glowing path that wound its way toward a distant chamber.
"Then that's where we're going," Rook decided.
The team moved cautiously, following the illuminated path. The air grew colder, and the sense of foreboding deepened with each step. The walls seemed to close in, their carvings shifting subtly as if watching their progress.
Halfway through, the path flickered and vanished, plunging the room into near-total darkness.
"Stay together!" Rook commanded, his voice steady.
A low growl echoed through the chamber, followed by the sound of claws scraping against stone.
"Here we go again," Bulwark muttered, raising his weapon.
The creatures emerged from the shadows, their forms more grotesque than before. Twisted and sinewy, their eyes glowed with a malevolent light.

The team bolted, their steps echoing through the chamber as they made their escape. They burst through the door, slamming it shut behind them.
Inside, they found themselves in a smaller, circular room. At its center stood a pedestal, upon which rested a glowing artifact that pulsed with an otherworldly energy.
"We found it," Rook said, his voice filled with grim determination. "But the hard part's just begun."
