"Hostile incoming!" Rook barked.
From the depths emerged a grotesque creature, its body a sickening fusion of flesh and sinew, with serpentine limbs that lashed out as it propelled itself forward. Its eyeless face turned toward the team, sensing them through some unnatural means.
"Fire!" Rook ordered.
The tunnel erupted in gunfire. Bulwark's shotgun blasts echoed like thunder, sending chunks of stone flying as they ricocheted off the walls. Shadow's precise shots pierced the creature's writhing limbs, while Viper darted forward to deliver devastating slashes with her blade.
The creature retaliated, its elongated limbs flailing wildly. One struck the tunnel wall near Ghost, sending shards of stone cascading into the water. Ghost rolled to avoid the attack, firing a well-placed shot that struck the creature's torso.
"Keep it pinned!" Rook shouted, unloading a burst from his rifle.
The creature let out an ear-piercing screech before collapsing into the water, its body dissolving into a dark, oily substance that seeped into the stream.
The team regrouped, their breaths heavy.
"That wasn't random," Shadow said, her voice steady despite the encounter. "It was guarding something."
Rook nodded, his eyes scanning the dark tunnel ahead. "Whatever's down here, it's worth killing for. Stay sharp."
