The call came at midnight—an urgent SOS from the outskirts of the city. Survivors reported unsettling noises near the old cemetery, followed by the ground shaking and the faint sound of chains rattling beneath the earth. ZETU mobilized immediately, their armored vehicles slicing through the cold, moonlit streets.
Captain Marcus Kane briefed the team en route. "The graveyard is massive and uncharted in parts. We stick together. No one ventures alone."
The team arrived at the cemetery, greeted by an eerie sight: dozens of skeletal figures rising from freshly disturbed graves. Each skeleton was bound with heavy iron chains, their hollow eye sockets glowing faintly under the starlit sky. They sat in open graves as if awaiting orders, their movements unnervingly synchronized.
"What in the hell…?" Riley "Quick Shot" Bennett muttered, her sniper rifle poised.
"They're chained," Derek "Shield" Coleman observed. "It's almost like they were… restrained."
"That doesn't mean they're harmless," Marcus said, cocking his shotgun. "Ethan, any readings?"
Ethan "Brain" O'Connor examined his tablet, but the screen flickered with static. "Something's interfering—again. But whatever these things are, they're giving off a low-frequency signal. It's almost like… they're transmitting."
As if on cue, the skeletal figures began to rise fully, their chains clattering as they moved. A low, guttural growl echoed across the cemetery. Lila "Huntress" Navarro knelt by one of the graves, examining the chains.
"These aren't normal bindings," Lila said. "The metal's etched with symbols—probably some kind of ritualistic seal."
Blaze's flamethrower roared to life, bathing a cluster of skeletons in fire. But the flames did little more than heat the chains, causing the symbols to glow ominously. The skeletons continued their march, their movements mechanical yet coordinated.
"They're immune to fire!" Blaze shouted.
"Switch to blunt force!" Marcus ordered.
Derek stepped forward, swinging his reinforced shield like a battering ram, shattering one of the skeletons into a pile of bones. The chains, however, remained intact, writhing like serpents before slithering to another skeleton and binding it anew.
"They're reassembling!" Riley warned, taking a shot. Her bullet shattered another skull, but the glowing chains pulled the bones back together within moments.
"They're feeding off something," Ethan realized. "We need to break the source of their power!"
The team's attention turned to a crypt at the center of the cemetery. Strange symbols glowed faintly on its stone surface, pulsating in rhythm with the chains.
"That's our target," Marcus declared. "Lila, find a way in. Blaze, cover her!"
Lila sprinted toward the crypt, dodging skeletal hands as Blaze's flamethrower kept the horde at bay. She pried open the crypt's door, revealing a massive iron altar covered in chains and glowing sigils. At its center lay an ancient tome, its pages turning on their own.
"This is it!" Lila shouted. "It's the anchor!"
Marcus and Riley joined her, unloading shotgun shells into the altar. The tome erupted in a burst of dark energy, and the chains across the graveyard disintegrated. The skeletons collapsed instantly, their power extinguished.
As silence returned, Marcus surveyed the scene.
