General Viktor "Bloodfang" Kruger stood atop a broken barricade, surveying the aftermath. The resistance had fought fiercely, but their last stand had ended in predictable ruin. Smoke curled from the barrel of his pistol, the final bullet having silenced Commander Elias Voss.
He turned to Sergeant Darius "Hellhound" Rook, who was wiping blood from his blade with the ease of a man accustomed to slaughter.
"Any stragglers?" Kruger's voice was low, measured.
Rook grinned, his canine-like scars twisting with the motion. "A few rats scurrying in the tunnels beneath the refinery. Nothing our Reapers can't handle."
Kruger nodded. "Send Reaper-77 to flush them out. No mercy."
Rook saluted before vanishing into the smoke, eager to carry out his orders.
Behind Kruger, the undead legions stood motionless, awaiting his command. These were no mindless shamblers; they were weapons, honed and sharpened through the horrors of war. He had perfected the process—Dr. Sylvia "Plague Mistress" Voss had seen to that.
A flicker of movement caught his eye. A survivor? No. Something else.
From the far side of the battlefield, a shadow emerged.
A lone figure, clad in a tattered resistance uniform, stood in the dying light. A woman—tall, lean, eyes burning with something far more dangerous than fear. Eva "Black Widow" Morales.
Kruger smirked. "I expected you sooner."
Eva said nothing, only gripping the handles of her twin daggers. The blood that coated them dripped onto the broken concrete. She had carved her way through the battlefield, leaving a trail of corpses in her wake.
"You should have fled with the others," Kruger mused. "But you always did enjoy impossible fights."
She was fast—faster than any human had the right to be. Her blade flashed toward his throat, but Kruger caught her wrist with unnatural strength, twisting it just enough to make her drop the dagger.
She spun, bringing the second blade up in a ruthless arc, but he sidestepped, his own knife appearing in his free hand.
