Darkness swallowed the survivors as they descended into the underground tunnel. The air was thick with moisture and decay, the scent of something unnatural curling through the confined space.
Leon flicked on his flashlight, the weak beam revealing rusted pipes and blood-stained walls. "Anyone else getting a bad feeling about this?"
"You mean besides the giant monster outside?" Mia whispered.
Evelyn knelt, pressing her fingers into the dried blood. It was still warm. "We're not alone."
Before anyone could react, a deep, guttural growl rumbled from the darkness ahead.
Emerging from the shadows, a new horror revealed itself. Its crimson flesh pulsed with an unnatural rhythm, its brain-like head twitching with anticipation. The creature's elongated tongue lashed the air, tasting them, and its massive claws scraped the floor, sending sparks flying.
"Holy shit," Lucas breathed.
Reaper didn't hesitate. He fired.
The shotgun blast tore into its torso, but instead of staggering, the creature lunged forward with inhuman speed. It crashed into Reaper, sending him flying into the wall.
Evelyn raised her pistol, aiming for its twisting, pulsating head. She squeezed the trigger. Two clean shots.
The bullets pierced its skull—but did nothing.
The creature's mouth split open wider, revealing rows of jagged teeth. A horrific, chittering sound escaped it, somewhere between laughter and a hungry growl.
The survivors bolted through the tunnels, the creature's claws scraping behind them. The walls trembled as it gave chase, crawling on all fours, faster than anything they'd seen before.
They turned a corner—only to find a dead end.
"Shit, shit, shit!" Mia screamed.
The monster rounded the corner, saliva dripping from its gnashing jaws. It rose to full height, nearly scraping the ceiling. The survivors raised their weapons, knowing it was hopeless.
Then, the ceiling collapsed.
A massive pipe crashed down, crushing part of the tunnel. Dust and debris filled the air.
When it cleared, the creature was gone.
The survivors panted, coughing through the dust.
Leon looked at the wreckage. "Did we just get lucky?"
Evelyn shook her head. "No. It's still down here. It's hunting us."
Reaper groaned, gripping his ribs. "Then we need to move before it decides to finish the job."
They turned to the only remaining path—a tunnel leading even deeper into the unknown.
As they walked, the air grew colder.
Somewhere in the dark, the creature's eerie, chittering laughter echoed through the tunnels.
It was still watching.
