HOTD! Busujima’s Step Brother Chapter 112

Albert Wesker received the reports from Rika in the form of written documents. It wasn't about Daiki's outing but her mission with Leon in the quarantine zone.

He received it yesterday. He had read the document and was satisfied with it.

A total of more than 10 thousand people were trying to get inside the quarantine zone. However, not even one of them was allowed inside.

The reason was clear: viruses. If one person entered the zone and he happened to have a virus, the whole zone would turn to hell. It wasn't worth it.

Wesker had the authority to reject them all.

But Rika, who was given a mission, reported that there were many people who weren't infected. She suggested taking some of them inside, including women and children.

"Naive." He threw the report on his desk and leaned on his chair, crossing his fingers in front of his lips. "As for the others..."

About the boy who just returned last night.

From the soldier's report, he returned while covered in grimes. It seemed that the kid had encountered a zombie, or maybe a group of them.

A quick question session with him confirmed the soldier's suspicion. However, the boy wasn't injured. There was also no sign of a bite mark on his body. His clothes were also dirty but didn't have a single bloodstain.

It's either he was very lucky, or there were other things involved.

What worried him was the fact there was no contact from Birkin for a few days. Either the man was dead, or the man had betrayed them. It wasn't impossible for a man in Birkin's position to do such a thing. He had always been an ambitious one, always wanting to be at the top.

'Well, that won't matter.'

Wesker didn't trust anyone, especially the people working under him. They could betray him anytime they wanted. It's just a matter of time until he disposed of them.

But, there's another problem. The report he got from the soldiers mentioned a spy. An Asian woman that the boy encountered when he was leaving Raccoon City.

A mysterious woman that was probably from the rival company, a spy sent by a rival company.

There was only one person in Wesker's mind that matched this description.

'Interesting. What does she want? Why was she in Raccoon city?'

Wesker was deep in his thoughts, his eyes fixed on the monitor in front of him. He was thinking of ways to find out what this woman wanted.

There were two possibilities here: Either she wanted to kill someone inside the facility or she came to steal some virus samples or even research.

Both of them would benefit her and her employer in some way.

He would have to tighten the security around here and send a team to hunt her. The woman was skilled. And if she managed to sneak past the security, she would cause some troubles.

'I will deal with her myself if I have to.'

Wesker had a feeling that this wouldn't end well. Not with Ada Wong in the equation.

Trouble for him and his ambition.

What if there was another way? What if the rival company could help him?

He knew the perfect plan to take care of her.

'I need her to cooperate with me.'

And he knew exactly what he had to do.

Days passed without much incident.

In fact, everything was peaceful, at least on the surface. The girls had already gotten used to living in a quarantine zone, and I also adjusted at some parts. There were soldiers, and I could talk with them. The girls were also starting to talk to others, especially Miss Rika.

The problem was that I felt restless. Something big was going to happen, I just knew it.

And that's why, I decided to rest and walked around the quarantine zone to know the area better.

But that didn't mean that I stopped training with Saeko. We sparred using wooden swords.

Also, I had been spending time with Saya more often. She was more open to me now and we often walked together to wind up tension. We talked a lot about various subjects.

I also talked a lot with Shizuka and Miss Rika. I mainly talked about some small stuff with the former and guns with the latter. I had very fulfilling days with them.

Anyway, this quarantine zone was massive and things had calmed down. The people who wanted to enter were rejected and now scattered in a refugee camp that the military had created.

Yes, they created a refugee camp, though I had no idea whether it was to keep an eye on the people who wanted to enter or they just had to do something about them.

As for the zone, it was like a town on its own.

Obviously it didn't function normally, but people began to create something out of boredom and even opened some shop. Those who had farming knowledge made a little garden and protected it from the others.

This place felt alive and I saw some normality here. People began to accept their fate and decided to just live their lives.

There was still fear in the air, and everyone knew that they were in danger. But, as time passed, the sense of danger also faded. It became more of an everyday life than a life-threatening situation.

For some reason, I felt conflicted. I dreamed of living a normal life but seeing these people being in peace, even for a short time, was something that made me angry for unknown reasons.

Maybe it was because I wasn't normal and knew this wouldn't last forever? Or because they should've been fighting instead of trying to live their normal life? Or was it just because of the guilt?

I had no answer to my own questions. All I could do was to keep moving forward.

So I trained. A bit of practice never hurts anybody. At least, if I were ready, I wouldn't be caught off guard. And if anything happened, I could escape immediately.

With one of the greatest dangers being the person in command in this quarantine zone, it's the smart choice.

But the thing I hated the most was to not know when something would happen.

Because of this, I had been staying vigilant for a week. It was hard to keep myself sharp but I managed.

And then... panic happened.

The peace had fallen.

People screamed outside our lodging and soldiers were moving. The air smelled like gunpowder and I could hear gunfire, meaning they were already engaged in combat. It's loud and I was afraid of what's going to happen next.

I immediately ran out of the lodging to see what happened and I was shocked by the sight.

Undeads were inside the quarantine zone.
