Hyper-Dimensional Player Chapter 16

Ever since the ’Edict of Milan’ was issued, for over a hundred years, monotheism has occupied an absolute advantage, while polytheism gradually disappeared until the last altar was demolished.

The legacy of priests from the polytheism era, many were judged to be witches and warlocks using witchcraft, which is the origin of the early initiated ’Witch Hunting Movement.’

Simply put, it was more like unifying beliefs, destroying temples, and uprooting everything.

It was also from that time that rumors about supernatural power became increasingly scarce.

The group found a lodging to rest.

Everything here was quite different from Duncan’s memories of Earth, but he needed to gather more information to understand it deeply.

Almaqun diligently ran back and forth to serve, to the extent that Duncan couldn’t bear watching, so he threw him two silver coins to find a physician to treat the arrow wound on his buttocks. The fellow’s wound had split open, and blood was still oozing. Yet, he continued to serve like a loyal servant, gritting his teeth.

After entering the room to rest, Duncan began sorting through his loot.

He couldn’t carry much, mainly currency. During Augustus’s reign, the empire established a clear monetary system of gold, silver, and copper. The most common were Dinar silver coins, followed by some smaller silver coins used as auxiliary currency. Early Dinar silver coins had various designs, but later they were unified with Augustus’s portrait, and the reverse side featured the Triumphal Arch. This is also currently the most common type of silver coin.

gold, 56 silver, several copper coins.

One gold coin came from a Grim Knight, three from the defeated Barbarian soldiers, and two were found on a Ranger. However, one gold coin bore the image of a bearded man wearing a crown, whose origin was unknown, possibly a gold coin from the Mesopotamia Region.

Most silver coins were Dinars, and a few foreign currencies were found on the Ranger.

Duncan put away the coins in front of him, these comprising his entire wealth for the moment.

After entering the town, the meals improved significantly. The staple food was dried bread, somewhat reminiscent of a baguette originating from the France region, accompanied by smoked meat vegetable soup, and a small sausage. Including lodging, three meals a day cost two silver coins, indicating that the purchasing power of silver coins wasn’t very high.

After all, the annual salary of an imperial infantryman was about 225 Dinars.

In these years of continuous warfare in the empire, many soldiers actually received little pay. When fighting broke out, few were willing to risk their lives for the empire.

"The silver content doesn’t seem high, this empire is going down!"

Duncan picked up a silver coin, examined it, and tossed it back into the pouch. In his past life, he wasn’t a Jing Luo; if the empire falls, so be it. He wouldn’t mind giving it a push. The empire now relied on Barbarian troops for support, and if the Barbarian race stopped cooperating, the empire would collapse in an instant.

Duncan sat cross-legged, meditating into a God-view perspective, pondering what features of his cheat ability had yet to be developed.

According to his understanding, after his transmigration, his soul was bound to that void Dimension Space. His human form was key to entering the real world. If his human form perished, he might just sleep in that void for an unknown duration, perhaps sleeping to death inside it.

Duncan felt his soul was still an ordinary person’s soul, and the human form should be a very important tool for him in the present.

Consciousness entered the void.

Under the God-view, all the town’s population was marked, the most conspicuous being the witch residing in the neighboring room at the inn. The skull mark was too glaring, like a world-class boss moving around.

Other units were scattered across various corners of the map, with quite a few one-star marks, and one two-star unit labeled as ’Retired Centurion.’

Duncan was curiously observing the intelligence of this small town using the God-view.

At the edge of the map, a conspicuous golden three-star marked unit appeared, dressed quite neatly in a robe and hood, wearing chain armor, carrying a longsword, silently flipping over the wooden wall to enter the town.

——Demon Hunter (Dragon Blooded) [Neutral Unit]!

The three golden stars on this guy were so dazzling.

If from the perspective of playing medieval total war, this guy was at least an elite unit, capable of single-handedly dueling a small squad of soldiers. As for the witch inside the caravan, undoubtedly a heroic unit, her strength was unfathomable, being the strongest supernatural individual Duncan had encountered so far.

"It seems these supernatural units all belong to the neutral faction."

"Do they keep their distance from worldly matters?"

Duncan carefully observed through the God-view and confirmed the opponent only had one sword, not carrying both a silver sword and a steel sword.

This guy roamed around the town just like Assassin’s Creed, ran from ledge to ledge, clung to eaves, performed a 180-degree rotation, and relied on strong core strength to flip up. In just a moment, he was on the rooftop.

Such high-difficulty maneuvers were impossible for the average person to perform.

The Demon Hunter gradually approached the inn, but he hesitated in the alley for a moment. Duncan zoomed in the view and adjusted the brightness to see the opponent making a gesture of weighing a pouch of coins. Then he turned around and disappeared into the adjoining shack, lying directly on the hay in the livestock shed.

The current time approached dawn, and staying at an inn was quite unprofitable at this point. Based on his actions, Duncan guessed it was to save money, or perhaps for the convenience of monitoring nearby.
