The bank president personally poured tea for the two of them. "Mr. Cooper, will you please sit and wait?"
"No need." Kris Cooper glanced at his watch. "It’s getting late, and my Vera is hungry. We’ll come back another day!"
With that, he reached out and pulled Vera up from the sofa.
"Let’s go, honey, I’ll take you to dinner!"
"Okay!" The young woman sweetly agreed, hugging his arm. She didn’t forget to make a face at Robert Taylor, who was kneeling on the floor and looking up at her. "Manager Taylor, take your time filling those out. And when you’re done, prepare a few financial plans for me. I’ll need them by tomorrow morning!"
Of course, she was just saying that; she had no real intention of depositing money in his bank to boost his performance figures.
Robert Taylor’s heart clenched, and he nearly had a heart attack from her provocation. Though he was furious enough to feel like he was coughing up blood, he had to keep a smile plastered on his face.
"Yes... certainly, certainly!"
The bank president knew he’d been played, but there was nothing he could do. Nodding and bowing, he led his subordinates as they escorted Kris Cooper to the door. The bank president even personally hurried over to open the car door for him.
Only after the black luxury car had driven far away did he finally raise a hand to wipe the oily sweat from his forehead.
Turning around, he saw Robert Taylor limping over, his face immediately darkening like the sky before a winter snowstorm.
"Everyone else can leave. You!" He pointed at Robert Taylor. "Tonight, you are responsible for creating the best financial plan for Miss Wave. If you fail to secure her 100 million deposit, you can just hand me your resignation letter!"
It had only been a few days since he’d managed to have a meal with Kris Cooper, barely getting acquainted, and now his own subordinate had created such a mess. He must have offended this financial heavyweight by now. The bank president truly felt like strangling Robert Taylor at that moment.
Robert Taylor, his knees aching, hastily agreed.
Kris Cooper leaned his face close to Vera’s. "Did you have fun?"

His eyes narrowed slightly as he looked at her excited little face, and he asked again, "So, was my ’husband’ persona effective?"
"Effective, so effective! It was perfect!" Remembering Robert Taylor’s expression, Vera laughed again. "It’s a good thing you showed up. Otherwise, Robert Taylor would have definitely lashed out at me."
"Then..." Kris Cooper reached out to tuck a strand of hair behind her ear. "A question for you: when did I become... your husband, hm?"
Vera froze, then sneakily glanced at his expression.
His eyes were slightly narrowed, and his expression was unreadable; she couldn’t tell if he was happy or angry. She had simply called him that to show their closeness, without thinking much of it. Surely, he wasn’t actually angry?
"That... I..." She gave him a placating smile. "I... I just... said it casually!"
"Casually?" Kris Cooper leaned closer to her face. "That’s something you say casually?"
"I..." Vera leaned back, trying to avoid him. She slipped and fell back onto her seat, hurriedly raising her right hand as if taking an oath. "I promise, I swear, this is the last time! I... I definitely won’t call you that so carelessly again!"
