Kris Cooper was on the phone with Tommy Taylor. Hearing a noise, he turned his head.
Before him stood Vera, wearing his tracksuit. The baggy top almost reached her knees, and the trouser legs piled over her small feet, which were encased in high heels. He couldn’t hold back and burst into laughter.
"What are you laughing at!" Vera glared at him, grabbed the contract and forms, and started to walk away.
"Wait!" Kris hurriedly tried to stop her.
Vera ignored him. He rushed over to grab her arm but only caught the sleeve. The neck of the tracksuit was so wide that it slipped down, revealing most of her shoulder. Even the small bunny pattern on one side of her bra was partially exposed.
Vera turned, choked with anger, and roared, "Kris!"
Kris glanced at her chest. His little girl had grown up quite a bit!
Vera quickly pulled her clothes back up. "You’re still looking!"
Kris chuckled. "I’ve called Tommy Taylor. He’ll bring the keys over."
Vera clenched her teeth and adjusted her collar, fiercely resisting the urge to tear him apart. She walked over and plopped down heavily on the couch.
This outfit was too comical. She couldn’t possibly go to the office looking .
She sat on the couch, pursed her lips, and remained silent.
Knowing she was genuinely angry when she acted this way, Kris glanced at her expression. He walked over to the fridge, brought out a plate of strawberries, and placed it in front of her. "Have some fruit first."
Vera ignored him. HUMPH! A plate of fruit to buy her off? Dream on!
Kris raised his eyebrows. Even food couldn’t bribe her anymore?!
"AHEM!" He sat down beside her. "Ten dollars each."
Vera immediately shifted slightly away. She glanced at the luscious, ripe strawberries on the plate and swallowed. "Twenty."
He continued to raise the price.
He was always proud and disliked apologizing the most.
Vera shot him a disdainful look.
Kris continued to raise the price. "Fifty."
Ultimately, she couldn’t resist the temptation of money. She pouted, then made an outrageous demand. "A hundred!"
Given her appetite, this whole plate wouldn’t be enough. A rough estimate placed at least twenty or thirty strawberries on it, meaning two or three thousand dollars.
She reached out for the plate, picked up a strawberry, and started to eat without reservation.
Watching her eat with an adorable smudge of red juice on her lips, Kris couldn’t help but smile.
Flashes of their past together came to him. She would always eat one herself and feed him one. Sometimes, she would playfully bite off the sweetest tip, leaving him only half.
Thinking of this, he cleared his throat. "I think you’ve misunderstood. I meant you feeding me!"
Vera nearly bit her own finger. Feed him? In his dreams!
She picked up another strawberry, put it in her mouth, and bit off the tip.
"Otherwise, you’ll have to pay for what you eat!" When enticement failed, Kris resorted to threats.
Vera chewed the strawberry in her mouth forcefully. She clenched her little fists several times, but in the end, she finally relented, picked up a strawberry, and brought it to his lips.
Kris closed his eyes, lazily parting his lips. With a deliberate twist of her fingers, she stuffed the stemmed end of the strawberry into his mouth.
He didn’t seem to mind, slowly chewing the strawberry. As he reminisced about those sweet times, a smile touched his lips.
Vera fed him two more. Looking at the biggest, reddest strawberry in her hand and then at his expression, she smiled mischievously. She quietly bit off the tip and fed only the remaining half to him.
