Outside Amegakure
Black Zetsu, attached to White Zetsu, emerged silently from the ground, his head hidden within the pitcher plant.
"You’ve arrived," a figure of the Blood Puppet Obito appeared from the void.
"How did it go?" Black Zetsu asked.
"Nagato refused," Obito replied. "He seems no longer afraid of the curse tag I placed on his heart. I don’t know if he’s removed it or if he’s just enduring the pain."
Black Zetsu remained silent, his dark eyes staring through the pitcher plant’s teeth at Obito.
"You don’t believe me?" Obito chuckled.
Black Zetsu stared at him for a few seconds, then relaxed.
"Let’s go," he said, heading towards the village. "Let’s see what kind of people Nagato and Konan have recruited this time."
"Senior Sasori~ Senior Deidara~ Hello there!" Obito suddenly changed his tone, turning around with exaggerated gestures.
A white clay bird descended from the sky, and Sasori and Deidara jumped off.
"Get lost, Tobi!" Deidara sneered at him after landing. "I don’t understand why the leader brought someone like you in, hm."
"That’s so mean, Senior Deidara." Tobi pretended to cry, wiping his mask with his sleeve. "I’ve always admired you seniors."
"Disgusting!" Deidara looked at him in disdain and kept his distance.
"Waaah..." Tobi exaggeratedly sobbed, "I worked hard to become an official member of the Akatsuki."
"Ugh~" Deidara shuddered at the sight.
"Let’s go! I hate being late, whether it’s myself or others." Sasori, lying on the ground, spoke with a voice filled with killing intent.
"Yes, Senior Sasori!" Tobi excitedly saluted with his hand on his forehead.
Sasori moved forward silently, and the group followed, walking through the dark and damp alleys of Amegakure, entering the tallest building in the village.
It was a vast hall.
"I heard we’re getting a new member today. I can’t believe I’m becoming a senior too, hehehe." Tobi’s lively voice echoed.
"Even Hidan and Kakuzu were taken out. I hope the leader recruits someone decent this time, hm." Deidara glanced disdainfully at Tobi.
Tobi seemed oblivious to his gaze, still excitedly saying, "Ah~ I want to make a good impression on the newbie! How can I act like a good senior?"
"Shut up!" Sasori’s metal tail, with a hook, shot out from beneath his robe like a snake, aiming for Tobi’s back.
"Ahhhhh... murder!"
Tobi twisted and dodged the attack with exaggerated but precise movements.
"Senior Sasori is always picking on me." He turned, clutching his waist, and looked accusingly at Sasori.
Sasori remained silent, his masked face expressionless.
Swish! Swish! Swish!
The long tail, agile and sharp, struck at Tobi three more times with lightning speed.
"Ahhh... I’m going to die!"
Tobi raised his hands, dodging Sasori’s attacks with quick twists.
"Though you’re quite disgusting," Sasori’s deep voice spoke, "your skills aren’t bad."
"Thank you for the compliment, Senior Sasori. Tobi is very good at running away."
Tobi clasped his hands together, blushing under his mask, swaying his hips.
Deidara, watching with a pale face, remarked, "In a way, Tobi is quite terrifying, hm."
At that moment, footsteps echoed, and Itachi Uchiha and Kisame Hoshigaki entered from outside.
"So, everyone is here?" Kisame smiled, revealing his sharp teeth.
"Senior Kisame~ Senior Itachi~" Tobi greeted enthusiastically.
"Itachi, have you heard?" Deidara addressed Itachi, "About what happened on the northern coast of the Land of Frost. Too bad you didn’t get there in time; you could have seen the father you killed."
Itachi’s hand trembled slightly in his sleeve. He glanced at the gloating Deidara before shifting his gaze naturally.
A few seconds later, Deidara, sweating, broke free from the genjutsu.
"Damn it! I’ll kill you!"
He glared at Itachi, shoving his hand into his ninja tool pouch to eat explosive clay.
"Don’t fight, Senior Deidara~" Tobi swayed in front of him, blocking his path.
"Tobi!" Deidara seemed completely enraged. "If you’re going to block me, I’ll blow you up too! Hm!"
"Ah, spare me, Senior Deidara..."
"Shut up!"
Footsteps sounded again, and Pain, accompanied by Konan and a young stranger, appeared on the second-floor balcony, looking down at them.
Deidara and Tobi immediately quieted down, looking up at the three on the second floor.
The newcomer, in particular, drew everyone’s attention.
"So, this is the new member? Not impressive."
"Hmph, looks weaker than Tobi, hm."
"Senior Deidara is so mean!"
The plain-faced newcomer flashed down to the floor and addressed the group.
"Nice to meet you. I’m Terai, and I’ll be joining the Akatsuki from today."
"Hey, hey," Kisame glanced at Terai’s forehead protector and turned to Itachi. "What a coincidence, Mr. Itachi, another defector from Konoha."
Itachi coldly looked at Terai and said, "Root."
"Yes, I was once a member of Konoha’s Root," Terai openly admitted.
Kisame grinned, "Root, huh? Since their leader Danzo was killed by Uchiha Kaito, I guess there’s no place for you in Konoha anymore."
Terai bowed his head, silent for a few seconds, then spoke again, "Yes."
"Hey! Pain, does this guy even have the skills to stand with us?" Deidara shouted in displeasure.
"From now on, Terai and Tobi will replace Kakuzu and Hidan, acting together." Pain coldly stated, tossing a ring marked with the number "Three" to Terai.
"Understood." Terai caught the ring and put it on.
"Eh? I’m going to have a junior now! The leader really trusts Tobi!" Tobi danced around, grabbing Terai’s hand and shaking it enthusiastically.
"Hello, please take care of me. Ah, you must call me Senior Tobi!"
"Please take care of me," Terai replied in a flat tone, looking at him.
Tobi seemed greatly affected, letting go and stepping back with exaggerated sobs, "Wah... The newbie is so cold to his senior! How can Tobi regain his seniority?"
"Tobi is the worst, hm!" Deidara laughed loudly.
Pain suddenly released a powerful surge of chakra, his cold gaze sweeping over everyone.
"Enough, let’s assign tasks now."
Black Zetsu, who had been silent, looked up at Pain thoughtfully.
