285 Saving The Damsel In Distress
As expected, Shang Sheng lost the first round. He looked at Lian Jing gloomily and begged, “Brother, have mercy. I wore all my favorite things in order to celebrate Meng Meng’s return!”
Lian Jing ignored him and looked at Shen Yin, who was nestled in his arms. “Pick whatever you want.”
“Sister-in-law…” Shang Sheng turned and begged Shen Yin pitifully.
She sized up the dark blue suit he was wearing and the expensive watch on his wrist. Shen Yin could not tell which of the items was the cheapest. So she picked a small item based on her intuition. “I’ll take your tie clip. That shouldn’t be the most expensive item, right?”
Sui Ran let out a muffled laugh. Even Chen Hui, who was sitting beside her, could not help but look at Shang Sheng sympathetically.
Everyone in their circle was well versed in luxury goods.
Shang Sheng’s tie clip was a global limited edition and a gift from his father on his last birthday. It had been crafted by a famous foreign designer. The tie clip cost more than his entire outfit today.
And Shen Yin had actually asked if it was the most expensive thing.
Lian Jing also laughed. However, he was not laughing at her for being silly. Instead, he gently stroked her hair and praised her softly, “Yin Yin has good taste. I like that tie clip too.”
Shen Yin’s eyes grew brighter when she heared that Lian Jing liked it. She turned to look at Shang Sheng and nodded with certainty. “I’ll choose that then. It just so happens that Lian Jing needs a tie clip.”
“He needs tie clips?” Shang Sheng widened his eyes in disbelief. He clasped his tie clip with both hands and begged pitifully, “Sister-in-law, choose something else. This one really won’t do!”
Sui Ran rolled his eyes at him and sneered in disdain. “Who suggested this penalty? Do you want to go back on your word now that you’ve lost? We agreed that the winning party can have whatever they want. Hurry up and give it to Sister-in-law. Otherwise, Brother Lian won’t let you off.”
Shang Sheng was afraid of Lian Jing. He shrank back pitifully, then hardened his heart and plucked off his tie clip. He threw it across the table at Shen Yin. “Take it! Don’t let me see it again!”
“Good for you.” Lian Jing reached out to take the item and placed it in Shen Yin’s hands. “Put it on for me.”
“Okay.” Shen Yin obediently turned around and earnestly put it on for him.
Lian Jing could not help but lower his head and kiss her forehead. He praised her softly and looked up at Shang Sheng mischievously. “Do you still want to play?”
“Sure!” He had already suffered a huge loss, so he must carry on playing! He had to win back that tie clip!
The second round started. Before anyone could play their cards, Lian Jing’s phone suddenly rang. It was a call from the shop assistant who was delivering the cake.
He casually stuffed the cards into her hand. “Play for me. I’ll go get the cake.”
“But I don’t know how!” Shen Yin was about to reject him in a panic, but Lian Jing had already stood up and walked out of the private room.
Shang Sheng was confident this time. Without Lian Jing, he would definitely be able to defeat Shen Yin easily!
On the first floor of the entertainment city, the shop assistant in charge of delivering the cake stood uneasily in the magnificent hall. The customers here were either rich or important. He looked a little out of place standing here.
The waiter behind him enthusiastically said, “Welcome.” As the door opened and the cold wind rushed in, the shop assistant was surprised by the scent of intoxicating perfume.
Mo Ru was wearing a dark brown skirt with a black cardigan. Her soft curly hair hung naturally around her face, and she was exquisitely made up.
She walked elegantly to the counter in her high heels and smiled gently. “Hello, I’m a friend of Mr. Sui. May I know how to get to the private room they reserved?”
The waiter was stunned by her beauty and took awhile to recover his senses. He flushed as he flipped through the booklet in his hand, then pointed to the long corridor to the right. “Take the elevator to the fourth floor and turn left. It’s the room at the end.”
“Okay, thank you.” Mo Ru memorized the location and turned to walk towards the long corridor. When she passed by the shop assistant, she happened to brush back her long hair, exposing her perfect jawline.
The shop assistant could not help but take a step forward. Suddenly, he reached out and grabbed her arm. “Miss, wait a moment. May I know your name?”
“Who are you?” Mo Ru wanted to shake off his hand in disgust, but the shop assistant seemed to be mesmerized by her and continued to stare at her in a daze.
No woman would want a man to stare at her so blatantly.
Mo Ru was filled with disgust, and a trace of anger appeared on her face. She shouted at the stunned waiter behind her, “Are you blind? Come and help me chase this lunatic away!”
The waiter quickly responded, but before he could rush over, the shop assistant hurriedly put the cake in down, freeing up one hand to grab Mo Ru.
Seeing that the box containing the cake was about to be kicked open, Lian Jing frowned and glared fiercely at the shop assistant who dared to cause trouble here. “Stop! Who said you could put my cake on the ground?”
