312 A Shy Child
Cheng Luo vaguely felt that her sister was a little too enthusiastic about Shen Nian. She frowned and said disapprovingly, “Nian Nian is also injured. He should go home and have a good rest. I’ll get the nursing aide to keep you company at night. Don’t fool around.”
“Sister, I’m not fooling around! It was Nian Nian who said he wanted to stay and keep me company!” Cheng Mu pouted pitifully.
What was the point of having these two old-fashioned aides to keep her company? She would prefer to look at Shen Nian’s beautiful, porcelain doll-like face as she recuperated. Perhaps she would recover faster if she was in a good mood.
Cheng Luo could not dissuade her. She stood up helplessly and said, “Alright, I have something I need to do, so I’ll leave first. I will come and see you tonight.”
“Okay!” Cheng Mu nodded readily and then gazed at Shen Nian with anticipation.
Shen Yin and Lian Jing looked at each other and she suddenly asked uncertainly, “Aren’t you busy with work today?”
“Yes.” Lian Jing glanced at her indifferently and said in amusement, “But I’ve already handed everything to Lian Meng to handle. I’m free this afternoon. Let’s go home and inform Grandpa first. He will fret if he hears this from someone else.”
“Okay.” Shen Yin nodded in agreement. She squatted down and patted her son’s shoulder. “Then stay here and take good care of Mu Mu. If you need anything, just ask the nursing aide.”,
“Okay.” Shen Nian’s face was expressionless. No one knew what he was thinking. After the two of them left, he jumped off the chair and looked at the nursing aides, who were at a loss. “The two of you, bring me an spare bed and a set of bedding. I’ll pay for it myself.”
The two nursing aides looked at each other and did not dare to say anything. They quickly went out to get it done.
Cheng Mu smiled as she watched him arrange a place for himself to sleep at night. She moved over and patted the half-empty bed. “Sit here and rest for a while. Let me take a look at your injuries.”
“There’s nothing to see.” Shen Nian looked down coldly, unwilling to get so close to her and lie on the same bed as her.
Cheng Mu felt bored and took a bite of the apple. Suddenly, she thought of something and immediately looked at Shen Nian. “By the way, didn’t you say that you wanted to repay me and I could ask for anything?”
This time, Shen Nian looked up at her seriously and nodded. “Yes, have you decided what it will be?”
“I’ve decided!” Cheng Mu raised her hand smartly and said with a smile, “I want you to take good care of me while I’m in the hospital. You’ll have to obey me in everything and that will be your repayment to me!”
“So simple?” Shen Nian looked at her incredulously.
Based on his understanding of human nature, unless they was related by blood, someone who risked everything to save another person must have an ulterior motive.
However, Cheng Mu did not seem to want anyone or anything other than him. It was as if her bright eyes were focused only on him.
This thought shocked Shen Nian for a moment. His whole body went numb for awhile before he came back to his senses and nodded in agreement. “Okay, then what do you want me to do?”
Cheng Mu vigorously patted the empty space beside her. “Lie down here. You’ll sleep here tonight.”
“Huh?” Shen Nian had never seen such an improper young lady. He was so surprised that his ears turned red. He subconsciously looked down at his thin body and suddenly felt angry.
Did she know that he was more mature than his peers? She was a girl, but she actually took the initiative to ask a boy to sleep with her. How shameless!
“Come here. You clearly made a promise to me.” Cheng Mu took another bite of the apple.
Shen Nian took a deep breath and gritted his teeth. “This is your own request. Don’t blame me in the future.”
“Why should I blame you?” Cheng Mu looked at him oddly. She was pleased when he obediently lay down beside her and she turned to observe his exquisitely beautiful face up close.
Cheng Mu liked children very much. Even though she was not very old, she longed for a younger brother or sister. Shen Nian’s looks suited her aesthetics, so she doted on him.
There was a pair of eyes staring straight at him. He felt very uncomfortable.
Shen Nian suddenly regretted his rash decision. He could have gone home with his mother and lain down comfortably in bed to rest. However, his pride refused to allow him to owe anyone a favor. As a result, he could only endure the scorching heat on his face as she stared at him. He stammered and closed his eyes. “You, why are you looking at me like that? Turn around.”
“Huh?” Cheng Mu looked at his increasingly red face oddly and widened her eyes in disbelief. “Don’t tell me you’re feeling shy?”
Shen Nian suddenly turned his head and glared at her. He saw Cheng Mu clutch her belly as she rolled around the bed in amusement.
Seeing that his expression was getting darker and darker, Cheng Mu stopped smiling and teased him playfully, “You’re only six years old, right? You’re just a little kid, why are you feeling shy?”
Shen Nian gritted his teeth. “Cheng Mu! If you continue to laugh, you can sleep alone tonight!”
