59 Provocation
Shen Yin relaxed as she left the police station. But when she got downstairs, Lian Jing’s assistant, Zhong Xin, stopped her.
“Miss Shen, President Lian has a meeting and will be back later, so he specially instructed me to pick you up.”
His voice was loud when he addressed her as ‘Miss Shen’. Many colleagues from the police station looked over curiously.
Shen Yin awkwardly pushed Zhong Xin out of the police station. As expected, she saw Lian Jing’s car at their usual spot.
She sighed helplessly. “Actually, you don’t have to go out of your way to pick me up. I can go back myself.”
Zhong Xin bowed his head. He spoke like a trained robot. “Miss Shen, you can make your request directly to President Lian. I’m just following his orders. Miss Shen, please don’t make things difficult for me.”
Shen Yin rolled her eyes and allowed Zhong Xin to open the car door for her.
She was about to get in when a pair of arms suddenly reached over and provocatively opened the car door again.
“You’ve really grown up. How many men do you get through in a day?”
A detestable voice rang out behind her. Shen Yin could not understand why this man kept harassing her.
“Lu Chen, do you have nothing better to do than to look for me?”
Lu Chen?
Zhong Xin’s eyelids twitched. That was Shen Yin’s ex-husband! If President Lian found out that the two of them were still in contact, and had even interacted in Zhong Xin’s presence, President Lian would definitely skin him alive!
Before Lu Chen could speak, Zhong Xin stood between the two of them and said respectfully, “Sir, I advise you to move aside. Don’t prevent me from sending Miss Shen home.”
Lu Chen grinned evilly. “Oh? When did you become Miss Shen? Have you hooked up with some rich heir? Does your little boyfriend know?”
Little boyfriend?
Zhong Xin’s eyelids twitched again. He felt that it was bad luck for him to go out today. Why were such sensational pieces of news being revealed to him in succession?!
How was he going to explain the situation to President Lian?!
“Sir, if you continue to pester me, I’ll have to summon someone to remove you.” Zhong Xin took out his phone and made a call.
Before Lu Chen could say anything else, a row of luxury cars suddenly stopped by the roadside. A few well-trained bodyguards quickly got out of the car and surrounded them aggressively.
Lu Chen’s intuition told him that he had provoked someone important. He glared fiercely at Shen Yin and warned her softly before escaping in embarrassment.
Zhong Xin heaved a sigh of relief when he saw that they had finally gotten rid of Lu Chen. He instructed the bodyguards to follow behind. He opened the car door for Shen Yin again. “Miss Shen, please.”
Shen Yin helplessly got in. She had no choice. They had created an uproar, and there were already many people watching the commotion. If she dawdled any longer, she was afraid that someone would take a photo of her and post it online. That would attract even more trouble.
Ever since she had returned from her overseas studies, she had avoided others labeling her as superficial and greedy.
She had her own abilities and could give Nian Nian the best things in life. She did not need to rely on anyone, but if Lian Jing’s relationship with her was exposed, she would be drowned in the gossip that followed.
By then, her ability would seem insignificant in the eyes of the public. She did not want that, so she did not want such a close relationship with Lian Jing.
Basically, they were from different worlds.
They got back to the Lian house and had dinner with Grandpa Lian. Shen Yin suggested leaving, but to her surprise, Shen Nian hugged her and wheedled to stay for a few days.
Grandpa Lian repeatedly tried to persuade her to stay. She found it hard to refuse, so she was forced to agree. She would have to find an opportunity to take Shen Nian away in the future.
After dinner, Shen Yin returned to her room. She remembered the gown that Lian Jing had bought for her, and she sneakily put it on.
She looked at her reflection in the mirror. She was wearing a short skirt, revealing a pair of fair and slender legs. Shen Yin could not hide the joy in her eyes. This was her first time wearing such a gorgeous dress, and also her first time wearing such a short skirt.
All women were vain.
However, she usually had to work and take care of Nian Nian. So she had never had the chance to wear such a short skirt.
She was standing in front of the mirror with her hands on her hips, turning this way and that to admire the dress, when she heard a man’s muffled laugh from the doorway.
“I didn’t know you were so narcissistic.”
