Dinner was originally supposed to be made by Bai Xin, but after she almost set the kitchen on fire, Bai Zhi and Wu Wa swiftly took over.
Bai Xin wiped her face with her hand, only succeeding in making her face even blacker, nearly unbearable to look at.
"Xingxing, sorry. Auntie hasn’t cooked in a long while and is a bit rusty, but I can stir-fry."
Bai Zhi smiled politely and tactfully declined.
"Auntie, no need, I’ll take care of it. Why don’t you go wash your face?"
Bai Xin felt a bit disheartened. Had it really been that long since she last cooked?
She hurried to wash her face and watched as the others swiftly chopped and stir-fried, making spicy chicken, winter melon soup, and stir-fried greens.
Bai Xin looked at the delicious-looking dishes and couldn’t help but swallow her saliva. It indeed looked very appetizing.
She couldn’t resist swallowing her saliva.
Bai Zhi served Bai Xin more food, wanting to be extra kind to her aunt who had just stood up for her.
Auntie also had a round face and was somewhat thin, the kind of gentle girl she appeared to be.
"Of course, eat more. You two as well, and Wu Wa, you eat too. After eating, Auntie will take you to make a scene and let Bai Da know that our Xingxing isn’t someone anyone can bully."
As Bai Xin spoke, she picked up a piece of spicy chicken and put it in her mouth.
That fiery taste—that was the sensation, no mistake.
"It’s so delicious; I forgot when was the last time I had spicy food."
Bai Fei continued eating, savoring it and non-stop stuffing more into his mouth.
"Auntie, weren’t you the type who couldn’t live without spicy food?"
Bai Zhi blinked her eyes, looking somewhat puzzled at Bai Xin. She had felt something off earlier, as if Auntie was teaching her but also reminding herself.
But in the original owner’s memory, wasn’t Auntie very happy?
"Yes, I used to be, but I later felt that spicy food made me too heated, so I haven’t eaten much of it. But eating the food Xingxing made, I feel truly blessed."
Bai Xin reached out and tousled Bai Zhi’s hair. She continued eating—really, it was so delicious.
"I’ll frequently cook for Auntie in the future."
Hearing Bai Zhi say this warmed Bai Xin’s heart greatly. What to do? She wanted even more for Xingxing to be her daughter now.
"Good, Xingxing is such a good girl."
After they ate, without even washing the dishes, Bai Xin took Bai Zhi and Wu Wa to cause a scene.
Before they even reached Bai Da’s house, Bai Xin started teaching her two nieces seriously.
"Listen, whether it’s arguing or making a scene, you must have a strong presence, overwhelming like a smashing bamboo. Understand?"
Bai Xin took a quick step forward and kicked the door open forcefully, maintaining her kicking pose.
Bai Zhi and Wu Wa looked at each other, both feeling that Auntie was awesome. This must be what was meant by being quick and having cool poses.
Bai Zhi walked over and whispered,
"Auntie, that’s enough, you don’t have to keep holding that pose, it’s tiring."
Bai Xin, equally in a low voice, said,
"Come here, help your Auntie, I’ve got a stitch."
The three of them walked into the yard, which was a complete mess, and yet there was no one there.
Because of the noise Bai Xin made along the way, quite a few people had followed to watch.
Before, everyone thought that Bai Da was so capable, handling both work and home, earning money and keeping the house clean. Little did they expect, without Bai Zhi, it was like heaven and earth.
"Bai Da, come out here!"
