Mu Yi suddenly burst into laughter, his front teeth fully on display. He hurried over, picked up the food, and wolfed it down.
Once finished, he quickly helped clean up, even taking care of the trash. There was still some semblance of a good man in him.
After everything was tidied up, he finally sat down and looked around the hospital ward.
"Why is it just you with a few kids here? Where is Bai Da? Why isn’t he here? That’s really not right."
As he spoke, he looked around as if searching for Bai Da.
"Don’t even mention him to me. What’s the use of him being here or not? What are you really here for today? How did you know I was here?"
Bai Xin was getting Bai Zhi ready to take her medicine. Bai Zhi frowned at the pile of pills, feeling a chill inside. Why, on top of the IV, did she also have to take pills?
Mu Yi scratched his head and looked at Bai Xin with a simple, honest expression.
"Well, you’ve been gone for so long, I was worried. So, I closed up the shop and went back to Bai Family Village to look for you. I heard from the villagers that you all were at the city hospital, so here I am. Xin Xin, come back with me. I’ve already talked to Mom—she promised she won’t make you eat all that random stuff again. Okay?"
Mu Yi looked at Bai Xin’s back, nervously.
He seemed anxious, with a cautious tenderness.
"This is a hospital; can you not bring up your family’s messed-up issues?"
Bai Xin turned around, a scowl on her face as she faced Mu Yi. He awkwardly shrank back.
Bai Xin then turned back to Bai Zhi.
"Hurry up and take your medicine."
Bai Zhi: "..." Was she an innocent bystander caught in the crossfire?
However, her uncle seemed quite afraid of her aunt, which was real. She couldn’t help but wonder, after Bai Da’s incident, if she was too suspicious of people who seemed honest and simple. Was she being overly cautious?
After all, this was her aunt’s husband. Shouldn’t she show him due respect?
"What are you looking at? Hurry up and take it. Your grandpa said that I have to make sure you finish all of it. How can it be so hard for you, a girl, to take some medicine?"
Bai Xin couldn’t understand; Bai Zhi wouldn’t make a sound when in pain, but when asked to take medicine, you had to watch her carefully. Otherwise, she’d switch them out in a minute or throw them in the trash.
"Uh, Auntie, I feel like you don’t trust me. I’m really well-behaved. How could I do such a thing?"
Bai Zhi felt a bit embarrassed, but she also had her pride.
She grabbed the water cup, bit her teeth, and started taking the pills.
One at a time, crisp and decisive. But inside she was struggling; when would this uncle finally leave?
Seeing that Bai Zhi had taken her medicine, Bai Xin finally felt relieved and looked at Bai Fei and Wu Wa.
"You two watch her. I’m going to step out for a bit. I’ll be back in half an hour. Understand? Study well; I’ll check on you."
Having an aunt who’s in high school is not something to be happy about, alright?
Can’t they just have a break?
Now Bai Zhi felt happier; it shouldn’t just be her feeling down. All together, that’s true love.
Bai Xin, with Mu Yi, went downstairs and saw Li Mo in his white coat in the hallway.
Tall and looking like a compassionate doctor, Li Mo made Mu Yi seem somewhat less in comparison.
Mu Yi gave an extra glance as Li Mo greeted them generously.
"Are you guys heading out?"
"Yeah, you go ahead and keep busy."
Bai Xin nodded with a smile, then proceeded downstairs with Mu Yi.
Across from the downstairs was a small park, where Bai Xin led Mu Yi to sit down.
"Alright, speak up. What are you doing here?"
Bai Xin hadn’t expected Mu Yi to come looking for her. His family really treated that little grocery store like everything.
