I Built a Beast Empire After Reincarnation Chapter 14

Chapter 14 - 14: Ashes of Roar and Thunder

Greystone's skies were iron-grey as the first morning bell rang from the castle tower. The sounds of hammers and hurried shouts echoed faintly from the outer walls, where guards still reinforced defenses. In the courtyard below, the arrival of the beastkin tribe had drawn attention.

Kaela, her striped tail flicking with tension, stood at the head of her people. Her silver armor glinted faintly in the morning mist. Behind her, the tiger beastkin—tall, lean, scarred from battle—stood with quiet discipline. At her side prowled her beast companion: Thunderfang, a saber-toothed feline crackling with residual static around its paws.

Reynard stepped out first to greet them, sword at his side, brow furrowed with caution.

Kaela inclined her head respectfully. "We have come, not as conquerors, but as survivors. Our people seek refuge."

Lucas emerged soon after, his cloak damp from the early dew, Zephyra circling above, and Umbra padding silently at his side.

Kaela's gaze narrowed at Lucas, not with hostility, but something sharper—respect laced with challenge. She gestured to her warriors.

"My tribe has shed blood trying to hold the line. We failed. I owe you the truth."

Lucas nodded, stepping aside. "Then speak it in the hall. All deserve to hear what the Tide has become."

...

In the Great Hall of Greystone, the hearth blazed as warriors, guards, and townsfolk crowded to listen. Kaela stood before them, her voice ringing clear.

"Three moons ago, the Stormclaw Tribe—my people—answered the call of the southern kin to hold the Thunderstep Basin. We fortified it, called upon our beast companions. We believed we could stop the advance."

Her fists clenched. "But we were wrong."

The hall was silent.

"We faced not just beasts, but a mind behind them—a tyrant white-silverback ape who called himself General Varnak the Dreadhowler. He stood twelve feet tall, scarred from hundreds of battles, wielding a warhammer the size of a tree trunk."

Gasps rippled through the crowd.

Kaela continued, "He was not alone. Varnak was flanked by two terrifying enforcers. His general, Kong'Mak the Obsidian Fang, a black-skinned ape with armor made of molten bone and wielding chain-blades that moved like serpents. The other—a cursed creature, Pyra the Infernaped, wreathed in living fire, casting explosive magic that incinerated lines of warriors in seconds."

Even Lucas felt a chill crawl up his spine.

"We fought back. Our spears struck true, our fangs found flesh—but our beasts—" Her voice cracked. "They wouldn't answer. Summons failed. Our companions grew confused, then paralyzed. The Tide's presence... it severs the bond."

A stunned murmur surged across the hall.

Kaela's gaze turned to Lucas. "The Silverback has learned. He brings not just destruction, but silence to our bond. He seeks to unmake what we are."

Lucas frowned. "You said your people fled. How?"

"We lost over a hundred kin. Thunderfang nearly died. We fell back in waves, fighting every step. We used ancient rites to shield our remaining companions long enough to escape. We've been running since."

She stepped forward. "I challenged you yesterday not because I doubted you, but because I hoped. Strength is law to us. If you can lead... then we will follow. If not, then the Stormclaw fight alone until our last breath."

Lucas met her gaze, steel in his voice. "Then you'll have your fight. But this time, you won't fight alone."

Kaela bowed deeply. "Then we are yours to command, Beast Emperor."

...

That night, as the Stormclaw tribe settled into the lower barracks, Lucas stood on the highest balcony of the keep. Elira joined him, wrapped in a fur cloak, still recovering from the poison.

"They were forced to flee," she murmured. "Even they couldn't hold the line."

Lucas nodded slowly. "The Tide is evolving. We're not facing mindless waves. They're strategizing. Cutting us off from our strength."

Zephyra landed beside him, feathers ruffling. Umbra crouched silently at his feet.
