Chapter 16 - 16: Bloodline Ascending
The early morning sun cast a golden hue over the training grounds of Greystone. For the past few days, the inner courtyard had echoed not with the clamor of rebuilding, but with the rhythmic clash of blades, the roar of summoned beasts, and the steady hum of growing power. Lucas stood at the center of it all, sweat trailing down his brow, sword in hand. Across from him, Elira and Kaela stood ready, their weapons drawn.
This was no ordinary training.
Since Lucas had discovered the hidden potential of the Identify skill, their progress had leapt in bounds. With every scroll he read, new pathways opened—not just for him, but for his party. By absorbing the skill inscriptions and focusing their mental will, both Elira and Kaela were able to learn and refine abilities far beyond what normal tamers could achieve.
Kaela's beast, Thunderfang, now crackled with arcs of electricity strong enough to blacken steel. Elira had honed Luna's agility to the point where the lynx could dash across walls and leap between rooftops without losing balance. And Lucas—Lucas was no longer simply a baron of Greystone.
He was becoming something more.
"Again!" he called, spinning Zephyra-blades in his hand as he lunged forward.
Kaela met him head-on, her twin sabers flashing in a flurry of electrified strikes. Elira flanked them from the side, loosing a volley of wind-blades from Luna's saddle. Lucas twisted, dodged, and spun Zephyra-blades into a vortex that deflected the blasts.
The fight raged for minutes before all three broke apart, panting, grinning.
Angel's soft, ethereal voice broke through the air.

Lucas sheathed his blade and walked toward the main hall, something stirring within his core. Umbra and Zephyra, bonded to him by more than just ritual, stood at his sides.
Then it happened.

A voice—deep, commanding—echoed across the field.
"Umbra. Zephyra. You are the chosen guardians of House Carter. Heirs to the Beast Emperor. Our strength is not only in command, but in unity. Remember this."
Then the vision shifted. A throne room of marble and gold. An armored figure—clearly an ancient ancestor—sat upon the high seat, hands resting on twin beast-symbols: lion and wyvern. He spoke to a crowd of kneeling warriors.
"The bond of Beast and Tamer is sacred. But the Bond of Emperor and Guardian——That is eternal."
Then light.
Lucas gasped as he returned to the training field, chest heaving. His hands glowed faintly with silver runes.
Umbra and Zephyra bowed their heads before him.
"I... I saw them," Lucas whispered. "Umbra and Zephyra—they served the first Beast Emperor. They were there at the founding of Valtanir."
Kaela looked stunned. "You're saying your beasts... are immortal?"
"Reincarnated. Reborn in this age to find me. And now, their memories are returning too."

"My destiny isn't just to survive the Tide," he said slowly. "It's to rebuild what was lost. To become what my ancestors were."
Kaela knelt before him, her eyes burning with belief. "Then lead us, Lucas."
Elira followed, placing a hand over her heart. "And we'll carve a new empire together."
The wind howled through Greystone's walls, but for once, it did not bring fear.
It carried the scent of war and rebirth.
